Called three parts stores this AM... CANNOT find any Autolite 3077 spark plugs.

Napa said they can order some Autolite 403 spark plugs... but the guy thinks it's hotter plug.

So what do you recommend? Or do you know some place where one can still buy the Autolite 3077 plugs?

3077 is obsolete, and was never intended for a tractor anyhow. Autolite 3076 is what you want.

I have used Autolite 3076 for many years. I have never had a bit of trouble with that plug in my John Deere Model "L Hercules Engine" and would suggest it to anyone.

Get an NGK plug that matches the auto lite and you will find they hold up a whole lot better then the auto lite plug does. I stopped buy both champ and auto lite a few years ago when i found they did not last long

About any antique tractor show I attend (many of them) have vendors such as Macks Tractor Parts etc. who have plenty of
7/8 Autolite 3077 Plugs and the cooler 7/8 3076 also. I bought some at NAPA not too long ago.

I wouldn't consider them obsolete (plenty for sale at shows) but sure they are 7/8 versus more modern 18mm and for 50 + year
old tractors !!!! Here's a BING search for places you may find them

http://www.bing.com/search?q=autolite+3077+spark+plugs+for+sale&src=IE-SearchBox&FORM=IESR02&pc=EUPP_UE00

THEY (3077) ARE DEEP REACH HOTTER SIDE WIRE ELECTRODE PLUGS and perform MUCH better then the slightly colder Autolite 3076
in the many older UNSTYLED Deere's I've owned.

The cooler 3076 are quicker to foul then the hotter deep reach 3077 if the engine isn't quite up to snuff...

I seriously doubt NGK or Bosch etc even make them as they are for olddddddd tractors and 7/8 instead of 18 MM.

Use what you like but in the old style 7/8 plugs in unstyled Deeres Ive fooled with, the hotter 3077 perform
so much better then 3076. Of course if you cant find any you have to get by with the cooler 3076 and sure they will still
work WELL DUH.

DO THE PLACES YOU CALL REALIZE YOU NEED 7/8 PLUGS IN SO MANY OF THE OLDER UNSTYLED TRACTORS ?????????????

Thanks, Ron.

I'll tell him... but not sure he will want to - if a person cannot get them anymore once that set goes bad.

Thanks. That's what he currently uses... just thought a hotter one might make it start better.

You're welcome HOWEVER what you mean you will pass the info to your Hubby (or old man lol)?? HECK WITH ALL THE WISDOM WE BESTOWED ON YOU ID THINK YOU SHOULD TO BE ABLE TO FIX IT YOURSELF !!!! He would do it for you I bet ???

Well for what it's worth, I run Champion W89D in my 1938 A. I would run 3077's if I could find them. I did run 3076's which ran fine once it started. The problem that I see is that you need a plug that actually reaches into the combustion chamber for a easy start. The W89D electrode fits to the end of the cylinder threads as I assume Deere intended. When I switched to the W89D the tractor has never started easier. It now starts on the second or third turn as before with the 3076's I would sometimes run out of my own steam trying to start it. I am sure somebodies hair is standing up on their arms reading this as they will tell me its too hot of a plug, blah, blah, blah. I don't work my tractor so I doubt I will ever burn a hole in the cast iron pistons.
Again, I would run 3077's if I could find them.
My 2 cents worth.

I owned several different old Deeres that used those 7/8 plugs and I basically had the same experience. If you had a tractor what was well worn or used oil or you didn't run up to temp as you should, the hotter 3077 didnt foul out as soon like the cooler 3076 would. They do sit a lot deeper down in the combustion chamber which could cause interference in some tractor engines where a 3076 must be used.

Agreed. My 38 A is still in its work clothes from the day it was delivered to the dealer. Never been touched or painted with the exception of a Wico mag being installed. Still has the original rear tires and one of the original front tires. It runs great but I'm sure it benefits from a hotter plug. The rear tires would probably fall off the rims if I tried plowing with it.

John T,

Ha-ha... that would mean I'd have to get my hands greasy. I only get them rusty. LOL

And "we" don't want me to learn tractor mechanics... I'd probably be buying up every hopeless old critter around just to resurrect it.

I thought I read that the 3077 was discontinued a year or more ago so unless someone is sitting on a large stockpile of them you may not find them. I have them in a couple of my old Farmalls that like to foul plugs , but use the 3076 in the ones that go to plow days or otherwise get out and work some.

I went through this last week looken for 3077s and the ones I did find were $$$$. I bought Champion W89D. I dont like Champion plugs but these do have the extended wire tip and not to expensive got them at ORelieys. Maybe you will find some at Lesuer next week.
