Roundup for lawns

When I see a jug of Roundup I automatically think glyphosate and kills everything.

Now I see Roundup (a Monsanto product) is selling 24d (a Dow product) under the Roundup for Lawns name.
I understand the patent has expired on 24d many years ago; but this just seems odd.

Is that a real product or is it photo-shopped? Using the Roundup label on other chemicals could certainly create some confusion. It won't take long before people reach for the Roundup bottle thinking it's 24D and we will see some entirely dead lawns. You would think both the legal department and the marketing department would have stopped that idea. Maybe Monsanto is immune from lawsuits?

Round up and entirely brown, dead lawns would be ok with me. Save me a bunch of time if I didn't have to mow. :)

Well it is a real product and by the label it would control a wide range of weeds in your lawn. Here is the ingredients:0.257% MCPA(2-Methyl-4-Chlorophenoxyacetic Acid, A Dicamba cousin), dimethylamine salt (2,4-D), 0.118% Quinclorac (Grabgrass killer), 0.029% Dicamba (Common OLD name Banvel) , 0.015% Sulfentrazone ( controls sedges more common commercial names Dismiss and Solitare ) .

Everything in () is my comments to what the more common names would be that many farmers would recognize.

It would appear that this is a join effort with Scotts-Miracle Grow lawn products. They are named in the actual USDA label.

Look at my link in my other post.
They make like 5 or 6 different formulations of different chemicals depending on what type of lawn you have.
Changing your zip code in the link from North to South changes what is shown.
Only difference is the little number after the word "Lawns".
This could get very complicated.

Seems odd they could use the Roundup name on something other than glyphosate. It's a bit like "Gas for diesels" would be...

The wife and I saw this ad last nite on the TV. We looked at each other and made a few remarks about how that will really confuse the consumers. Just another WTF!

This sounds like a strategy by Monsanto to protect their "Roundup" brand name. The word Roundup has become synonymous with glyphosate; by sticking it on different products, they keep their brand from becoming a generic name for a generic product.

Preen for flowers and preen for gardens are labeled differently. Garden preen is a few bucks more. Read the fine print, same % of 24d.

Not odd at all. Monsanto owns the rights to use Roundup for anything they want.

They could buy out McDonalds tomorrow and change the name of the Happy Meal to "Roundup for Kids" if they wanted.

And without changing the ingredients or nutrition info!
