Truck Pulls

This was some vhs I converted to digital files a few years ago. We had a pulling sled in town for vintage tractor pulls so of course some of the guys wanted to see what their trucks would do. Charlie's old ex Sask. Power Chevy service truck was pretty impressive.

My thought is some guys must not have enough things that need fixing, (if it ain't broke you're not trying) but on the other hand if it holds together and wins you do have bragging rights.

We used to got to tractor pulls and when they started pulling trucks, we quit. I was not going to subject my family to parts fling out from under the truck. They had no guards around the u joints. Plus a drive shaft could fly out and kill someone.

I remember back when they first started pulling 4wd truck. I was at a pull in Tonganoxie, KS and all these guys had big tires, open headers, would hook on and go a little ways and run out of power. Along come this fellow in and old 62 Chevy with skinny mud tires, 283 V8 with granny 4 speed, hooks on and takes off and walks the sled right out the gate and was still moving when they stopped him. The funny thing is, the audience was laughing when he hooked. I have always been more of a fan of tractors than trucks but I do like watching the diesel trucks these days.

Around here we have two different types of truck pulls, the pro's and hick's. The pro's have nice trucks, spend tonnes of money making them look good and run good. Then there are the hick's. They drag what ever piece of junk out of the weeds and pull with it. I agree with the safety issues with the hick's. I don't mind watching the pro's pull, but the hick's forget it.

I think I enjoy just as much watching the ordinary truck that the guy drives every day showing what it can do on the sled. If its got a good running V8 gas engine with low restriction exhausts and sounding good, thats all the entertainment I need. Those fancy modified rigs are of little interest to me.
