Help yesterday The front hydraulics quit while trying to raise the snowplowWhen we tried the rear hydraulic it still worked.after taking it back in the garage we tried the rear and now it quite working. checked the hydraulic fluid and it is almost empty. checked the oil and it got into the oil pan. I read somewhere last night (but can't find it now) about a bearing and or seal that you can get from Napa for a 1948 Farmall super A. Would someone please tell me about what I need to do to fix this problem. Thanks

Is the hyd pump on the side of the engine block like a Cub. If so there is an O ing
on the shaft that is leaking. I had this happen on my Cub once and I replaced the O
ring

Yes it is Ivan. do you know if you can get it at Napa or tractor supply? and how easy it will be to change? thanks for the help.

It has been a while but I used one out of an O ring kit I had. I think I had to take
the pump apart which is an easy job once you remove the lines and unbolt the pump
from the tractor. I think I replaced the gasket on the lines but if you don't have
one they are easy to make

Different pumps some had o-ring and some had a seal. The important part is does the shaft have wear where the seal goes. You mite need a speedy sleeve there. Take the parts with you when you go to Napa they will be able to fix you up

get a hold of Baum hyd 4023454122 got seal for that pump from them last summer at that time parts man know just what seal was need it is a crazy size

if your pump has the seal and not the o ring Baum knows what seal is needed the one they have is a little deeper and dose not seal on the old spot that number is for Baum has nothing to do with Napa

Marloweg is there anyplace that shows how to go about changing the o ring or seal. I don't want to take the wrong things apart.

Well finally got the seal and changed it and some O ringsbut when I put it back together it still does not work. The rear one I could not even push the lever to raise or lower it and the front lever was free but did not lift or lower the front hydraulics.it only took a little over 2 qts. of 30 wt oil which is what I was told to use in case the seal went bad again and oil went into the engine it would be safer. Do I need to prime it or something? Could I have put the pump back in wrong I put it in where the gear was on top. Help I need to get t his thing goingThanks

Doesn't make sense. Just running low on oil should not have caused a lever to get stuck.

Also, what do you mean by "front" and "rear" hydraulics? The Super A does not have front or rear hydraulics. It only has middle hydraulics, under the gas tank.

The system should be self-priming, though you probably need to leave the cap off the fill hole to let air in. Keep working the levers slowly back and forth, and keep the fluid topped off. Make sure it didn't just blow the seal again and start pumping oil back into the crankcase.

If that doesn't work, then you will have to remove the hydraulic unit, take it apart, and figure out what went wrong.
