Emily just called

Just got a call on my cell from Emily, but she said she was having problems with her headset. I think she may be related to Rachael and Brigit. Next time she calls me, I may just tell to plug said headset into a wall socket!

I probably answer the phone 50 times a day at work, and at least 20% are either these idiot scammers/telemarketers, or there is no one there. I wonder how many man hours are wasted each day nationwide , because of this crap?

With all the technology available today, somebody needs to come up with a way to put a stop to this garbage. Whoever does will definitely retire a rich person.

0 hours for me. If it's a number I don't recognize, I let it go to voicemail. You should do that too. Put anybody that's legitimate in your contacts list so you know who is calling. Let any unlisted numbers go to voicemail. Scammers won't leave a voicemail.

Yeah, that lady sure has trouble with her headset, not only when she is calling you but also when she has called me. I didn't remember the name though, covered by the click of my phone being hung up

She called me at work. I answered all her questions and let me talk to a guy from India. He said hello? hello? HELLO? I giggled and said oops I was having problems with my headset. He said he was too, and hung up so so very rude

For several years, I have not been answering my phone unless I know the number calling. If they leave a message, I can call them right back. No message tells me the call was not important to them. Over the time, I probably missed out on a few million dollars I win if I would answer my phone.

I was in an accident 3 weeks ago. As soon as the police report came out on their web site my phone started smoking. One number called every 3 minutes for 5 days, all during business hours. In a 7 day period I got calls from 47 different numbers that could not leave a message. (all Ohio numbers) When the other driver's insurance called, I did not answer it either. Same area code as the scammers/fraud calls. Amazing how many ambulance chasers there are out there. Why don't these leeches get a real job? There are places all over with help wanted signs.

My problem is that we sell some of our products via swaps, craft fairs, bazaars, etc. Some potential customers may have picked up our numbers off our business cards or internet, or word of mouth. Kinda gotta answer unknown numbers, rude not to, and can loose business that way.

I just hang up, don't take the time to get rude. Those recordings don't care what you say anyway. I then list and block that number so they don't get through next time. Got quite a list. Problem is they keep getting new numbers. Newest wrinkle is they clone a number that looks like a local call.

FCC is working on regulations to limit the telemarketers cloning numbers to make it look like a local call. To be run by the phone companys. Think this will work? Think I'll reserve judgement. This plague has developed a life of it's own.

1970-1655, I have also noticed an increase in calls following certain events.

I've heard the telemarketers often buy phone lists which are related to their product.

They are sold by some places you wouldn't think would stoop so low to be a part of the problem, like the post office, tax offices, driver license departments, parks and wildlife, police departments, etc.

Anything for a buck!

They have the ability around here to have a local number show as the one placing the call so you may recognize the number, not the person placing it.

On the house phone if I don't recognize the caller id I don't answer. On my cell I have it set so if someone calls that isn't in my contacts list it won't even ring. It goes straight to voice mail.

The problem with these types of regulations is that they are impossible to enforce when the calls are coming from some offshore outfit in the Philippines or Sri Lanka or Hong Kong.

I have long maintained that the phone company has the technology to stop the cloning of fake numbers also known as spoofing. I have to wonder why they have to be told to use that technology in a constructive way.

caller ID comes up on our TV screen. Every now and then our own number comes up. How in the world can they do that? We don't answer many of them that is not numbers or names we know. Since our factory office is now in our home, some days when I come in Dixie is about to bite pole barn nails into. Ear plugs are advisable for neighbors. Takes a long time to convince her that I am not directing the calls at her. :)^D

Few years ago I created a LLC. The only one that new about it was the lawyer that helped set it up. Within two days I started getting junk mail addressed to the new LLC. So either the county recorders office or the lawyers office sold our name.

I haven't heard from Emily. But I think Heather has a crush on me, she calls me about my credit cards, going to some place on a cruise, and various other neat things.

I get many calls at work, we answer all calls, that's our business. Sure does get crazy sometimes. We have a standing policy now: If it's a live person calling, we tell them to hold while we get the one they ask for, usually the owner of the business, or sometimes the shipping department or other important sounding people. By putting them on hold it ties them up just a little longer. We never are rude to them, but that's the limit there. Recordings are usually just hung up on, but sometimes I'll listen to it to see if a person comes on at the end. If that happens, the hold button comes in again, telling that person I have to get the boss or whoever I make up.

At home I talk to them, taking up time like others have talked about.

I do have an open question: Has anyone reading this right now ever, ever bought anything from a telemarketer, or do you know anyone who has? Do they ever sell anything to anyone? I have never gotten a positive answer from anyone I have asked.

every few days either my wife or i get a call this number it is very important person on the other end is very hard to understand

One of them called last night with the "headset problem". Said a few choice words and hung up.
