I am trying to get the brake cover off on my Farmall H in order to install new brakes. Do anyone know how to get the cover past the raised key on the shaft? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a woodruff key, tap on one end and the other end should come up.
If it's a straight key, use a punch, cold chisel or screwdriver to tap it out of the end of the shaft.

Sometimes them woodruff (half moon) keys get rusted in real bad. Heat shaft red hot will help. Sharp chisel one the end will break it loose. The shaft simply rides in a hole in the trans case, sometimes you can take the whole works off (cover, shaft, cam, brake band) and all, so you can get it to the bench to work the key out. There is a great YouTube video showing the entire process step by step. Just search Farmall H brakes. Be sure to check the welds that hold the cams to the shaft, these have welds that break and rotate on the shaft instead of tightening brake band. If they break just twist them back into position and weld them in place.

If it's the shaft in the cover? Cover along with shaft and the brake shoe comes off together without removing the shaft lever from shaft or key.
