Driving in the caves

I drove back in the mid 80s. Yes, I've been in those caves. Hard to believe that an 18 wheeler can go in, make a big loop, and then back up to a dock and unload.

They are lime mines that are mineed out and now they have built rooms and have businesses down there. I
delivered paper rolls to a printer.

Thanks for sharing that. Amazing how extensive this system is.
There are also lots and lots of government commodities stored here.

Nice looks like even train tracks down there.
When the mines were going in South western Wisconsin they used to drive semis in and had two lane traffic but i heard just before they closed the mines the support columns were blown to get the rest of the ore out seeing your video i think theres certain roads I'm going to avoid there are sinkholes and it makes you wonder.

That's awesome Jon, Thanks! Do they give you a Map before you enter so you have some idea of where you are going?

Doc :>)

Hey Jon, watched your other videos. I left my comment on one of them. ...Will give you a hint - has to do with a moron! *hehe*

Brings back memories of driving through the under ground sand mine. Only that was dark and dusty, and never knew when the ceiling was going to fall, good times!

That's because it's gone! Cut up for scrap and and loaded onto rail cars. It was running OK when I retired, but not making any money, used to make magazine paper, not many magazines sold anymore. After the explosion and fire it would've cost too much and taken too long to get back into production. One person died and a couple injured.

There are several of those in the Kansas City area. I have been in one just outside downtown. Another north of Independence. Have seen others but never in those. Really quite amazing when you think about it. Using what mostly is considered worthless abandoned mines and having a good use for them.

Jon
Have been in there a few dozen times. Some of the turns are a bit tight, but not too bad if shorten trailer slider before going in.
Hint- in cold weather turn windshield defroster & mirror heaters on high, open windows before going in so the high humidity doesn't fog things up when it hits the cold glass. In summer, do the same while inside before going out.

looks similar to the tropical underground north of KC. I used to pickup and deliver pet food from there.

If you watched them all that word comes up more than once. Lol. Some tractor stuff there too.

Ok, ok...it was the Silverado that was trying to get on the freeway in moderate/heavy traffic and expecting that HE had right-of-way. When you didn't slow down (ie.; slam on your brakes) for him, you got over to get off his butt, but he wanted to play games with you.

That was in Mo. on I-70. Good thing I had the sound off for that one. Lol I learned early on to turn off
the sound on the dash cam to avoid both my singing and language.

Back in the mid-80's in San Antonio, I was headed back to base in a massive rain storm (raindrops the size of walnuts!) on I-35 when a semi decided he wanted to get in my lane. I had headlights on and then was blaring on my little beep-beep noisemaker, but it was useless. To this day I don't hold a single grudge against him. ...And I was in a little truck built by Mitsubishi! :p

It's sad though how so many people seem to believe that entering traffic gets right of way.
