Where to buy

Where do I get a complete set of all the battery cables starter and dash cables required to rewire my John deere 4020 sytem? I'm converting it to 12 volts.

Johnny Dear, of course. When I replaced the cables on my 2520, I took them off and carted them down to my local IH-Kubota dealer, and they made up a new set, and I got them to make them a guage heavier. They were about half of the cost of the JD set.....

There is no one place to get them in my opinion.

I would measure up and buy battery cables on the Internet.

The existing bracket will work with Delco 10si alternator, which can be picked up locally.

The wiring does not need to be modified for the conversion, but if you need replacements, they are available aftermarket.

I have never done this actual conversion, but sometimes buying from the dealer will save you time in the long run in this type of a situation. If everything fits, you have one trip to town to pick up the parts, you take them home and put them on most of the time. If you are making it up yourself there is a chance a part you make might not work, be too short, long, wrong shape, you forgot a part, etc. Then you have another trip to town to rectify the problem. It just depends on how much time you have to do the job. I have made lots and lots of things I could have just bought instead. I maybe saved some bucks at times but I did have the satisfaction of doing it myself. You can look at it either way.

I buy the ends and use welding cable. I don't use the bolt on type I get the crimp style. I crimp them then solder. Never had a problem and saves a fortune.

For your alternater you take the existing generator bracket and flip it upside down. You will still need to grind a little off the front corner. Then find a long bolt and make a spacer. I have a local shop that makes my battery cables. I like when he uses welding cable as it is more flexable. Tom

You don't really need ANY different wires and cables for the conversion, stuff just gets swapped around.

I sent you the instructions, didn't I?

Yes Bob you did! I tried to read those and figure out what they meant to no avail!! lol I'm going to have to have someone give me a hand. Thank you though!
