John Deere 4020 starter

I ordered a new starter and received it and it is way bigger than the old one and its a 12 volt and my tractor has a 24 volt system. is it possible to use the starter although its a 12 volt or will it burn the starter up?? Also some crazy person put an alternater on instead of a generator but they didn't conver the rest of the system so now that I have a starter and alternator what else is needed to complete the conversion? Thanks

Attach 12 volt batteries in parallel instead of series then attach both brown & blue wires in wiring harness at starter to the top post on the 12 volt starter solenoid post. If alternator is 12 volt then you should be good to go.

(quoted from post at 03:47:09 03/11/17) How do I do the parallel hookup?

A cable + to + and a cable - to - across both batteries.
Plus lead to were it is now, negative to ground,

Guido.

Does anyone have a picture of how the batterys are wired ans such? I apologize for this but I'm a complete idiot when it comes to wiring. Thanks
Marcus

Marcus, if you care to email me I will forward some detailed instructions. Gotta get that done tonight, for a couple of other guys.
