Smart mouse

In messing with sunflower seeds and a JD planter I had left a few seeds scattered on the floor of my shop. Next day I noticed all the seeds from the day before were gone. Ah-ha we have a mouse, made a water bucket trap (Google "bucket mouse trap") and set it next to the planter with a few seeds placed on the ramp. Used peanut butter with a few seeds stuck in the PB on the can. Next day had two mice in the bucket which I took care of.

Several days went by and seeds were no longer disappearing, then one morning noticed all the seeds on the floor were gone. Reset my trap with seeds on the ramp to entice the little bugger to try and get to the seeds on the can. Next day all the seeds on the floor were gone along with the seeds I placed on the ramp but no mouse in the bucket. This was strange as it had always worked so I reset everything along with more seeds on the ramp and closed up the shop. Next day same thing, seeds were gone but no mouse. Only conclusion I can come to is little sucker must be smart enough to not try for the seeds on the can.

Next up is to try a couple sticky traps :)

i have one in the house i cant catch ive used four different style traps at least a half dozen different kinds of bait but no mouse ive even used the sticky traps decon is the last resort but i have a couple dogs and one cat in the house so i hate to use that stuff but i dont know what else to do.

Using mouse bait what i did was take a milk jug and cut a mouse size hole in the side and use bigger chunks that won't drop out. Mouse can get it cats and dogs cats can't i think . The mutt was to lazy to try but if any mouse messed with her food that would get her going.

My experience has been that they travel in pairs. I usual have two in the bucket. I have calcium chloride in the bucket, but it still freezes over when below zero.

I feed them good too right before the end. I use peanut butter topped off with a chocolate chip. They cannt resist. Gets em every time{so far}.

We know how much mice like old vehicle cabs. I have an old farm dump truck, which rarely gets moved. I got tired of cleaning the nests out, so I got some new style plastic traps, baited them with peanut butter, and set them on the cab floor. This was last fall. The truck has been parked in several different spots since. Activity stopped some time in Jan. Until then, I caught 36.
