Ferguson TO-30 Backhoe question

Hello! I am new to this website, hopefully I am posting this in the correct place. I have a 1954 Ferguson TO30 and I just purchased a 3pt McConnel Power Arm backhoe from a friend of mine. Besides a couple minor hydraulic leaks which are totally fixable, the biggest issue is that the 3pt won't pick up the backhoe, it's too heavy. Now, I came up with a way to mount and unmount it without having to lift it with the 3pt hitch but I am concerned that it's going to do damage just from being attached, even if the lift arms are all the way down. I am just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or can give any advice for what I should do. Thanks so much!

You can find a wealth of knowledge and experience here, Also if you scan down the list of forums, you
can find one for 'Case' tractors. Of course many of the members stop in here too. (like me).

The McConnel Power Arm is way too big for a TO 20. I have one on a Fordson Major and it will throw her about and she will struggle to lift it at times. You will also find that the hydraulics will be very slow when working.

Think you need a bigger tractor IMHO.

Way too big, soon you will have the
to15-15 model, that's what you get when
a to30 breaks in half at the bellhousing

I have a somewhat similar back hoe(woods 7500)mounted on my 2600 Ford. I never raise the arms because there is a special locking bar that attaches to tractor's upper center point and the upper back center of the hoe. It is very important that this bar is in place. Without it the hoe will rise up while digging and you can get hurt. Your hoe should have some kind of cylinder operated pads that go down before digging. The idea here is to make tractor and hoe one unit, by putting the pads down you take the weight off the rear tires. On my 2600 I also put down the front end loader bucket to give a solid platform to dig with.

I used to have a JD 4010 and had bought a backhoe attachment that was formerly part of a JD 310 TLB, I think. By mounting it on the 3-pt, that extended the weight considerably farther out than what would be normal. This backhoe was just on the verge of being too heavy for the 4010 and, I admit, there were times when the rear hydraulics just didn't want to lift that heavy load.

Your TO-30 is considerably smaller and with much weaker hydraulics, so it's going to be very difficult for you to use a 3-pt mounted backhoe on it. Would have to be a VERY small backhoe.

Even if you could lift it, you DO NOT want to do it! The first time you pull very hard against something,
you will probably do serious damage to the top link draft sensing linkage. There are very delicate parts in
there, and they are made of UNOBTAINIUM!
