The guy who boils our sap picked up a CaseIH DX 48 tractor. Cute little thing. About the same dimensions as my 420. Weighs about a 1,000 more and of course it has a 4WD unit and about 12 more hp. on the PTO. I do get a chuckle out of using the 48 moniker. They try to make you believe you are getting more than you are. 48 engine hp. PTO is 40 something. Quite frankly, I think the claimed 4300 weight is rather optimistic also.

All of that aside, the 4WD unit on these small tractors, makes them rather handy. Far more useful than similar sized 2WD tractors of old. Especially with a loader on.

It weighed in at 4490 lbs with the operator but no ballast according the the Nebraska test report so that weight is right on.

Quoting the engine power instead of PTO power is becoming more prevalent these days. It used to be that only large 4WD tractors were commonly advertised this way, probably because many of them didn't have a PTO. Nowadays, though, the engine power is advertised and for some brands is often incorporated into the model number, such as with your example. Taking it another step further you now see "peak power" being quoted in spec sheets as well, not just the usual "rated power".

Chuckle all you want. That's a good tractor. Same as a TC48 New Holland built buy Shibaura. My neighbor has one that I've used in front of my 269 baler.

People don't realize the differance 4wd makes on a tractor, I have a Ford 1720 27hp with loader, the farm I'm on had a ford 4600 2wd with loader and double the hp, but no chains on the rear tires, my 1720 could move snow, push back the manure pile alot better than the bigger ford with 2 wd.

2 wheel dr. is good, fwa. is better, tracks are best. We do need to clarify what the application is though. When it comes to mowing and raking hay in the narrow road ditch the 2 wheel drive is best. Turns much shorter and you can mash on the brake and slide the front end around the corner. You can't do that with fwa. Also when it comes to road travel, tracks are the worst not the best. In my Cat trac it about throws you against the windshield when you go over a heave in the road. So everything has its place. Yes loader work is where a fwa. really shines.

I'll go with the stated weight then. They just look lighter than that to me. I've noticed the trend towards engine hp ratings. Don't suppose the manufacturers really want to disclose how much hp. that these modern hydraulic systems and trannys bleed off. Some different from the days when Oliver certified that you got at the very least the hp you were paying for.
