Two more killed in snowmobile crashes yesterday in our area [70 mile radius] which I believe brings the total for the year close to twenty. Now if those were car fatalities the authorities would be up in arms but not so with these fun machines. Don't you know that these killing machines bring in much needed revenue to our impoverished counties?

I have lost track of how many have been involved in personal injury accidents or even of those that are at the bottom of the lakes. It is just great fun?

If those fatalities occured on private land, the authorities do not have any authority. Around here, it is the 4 wheelers that folks are getting injured on, and all you can do is tell them to be careful.

They're just making those things too fast and powerful nowdays. Used to be a trail machine was 340cc. The big racing machines were 600s and 650s. Now the trail machines are 650s and 800s.

Some things are considered "Rational"...and some are just plain Stupid..

You CANNOT FIX STUPID...

I hear rumors that the "Legal Mature Age" may be raised to 25, since Stupid is more prevalent in that age group..

Yea, I know....they are "Gonna Life Forever"...( in their Dreams )..

My cousin has a Boss Hoss motorcycle, a production cycle with a Corvette V8. Something like 450 horse power. He has offered to let me take it for a spin. I am tempted, but so far have declined.

Last I heard, he has it for sale. I hope he sells it soon.

That's one way to cull the low I.Q. part of the herd. They seem to knock off 2-3 motorcyclists a week around the Phoenix area; most of the crashes happen about 2:00 a.m. just after the bars have closed.

My last snowmobile had 145hp and weighed less than 500lbs and would go 110 mph in 600ft from a standing stop on bare ice. I still get warm and fuzzy feelings when I think about driving it. We used to say all funerals for snowmobilers were closed casket because it was imposible for the mortician to get the grin off their faces.

In warmer weather they will be crashing ATVs at the same injury and fatality rates or higher. Many ATV and snowmobile crashes happen on private land. Cops and DNR mostly patrol roadways, road ditches, waterways, and public lands.

Good buddy of mine had one.His wife said that when he brought it home her blood pressure went through the roof! He paid big money for it,sold it after 3 years for even bigger money.Wicked power. When you cracked the throttle you'd better be hanging on tight!

was on local radio this am millenims age 16 to 25 are in like 80%? of traffic accidents.
texting, speeding 10 + miles per hour over speed limit, running red lights or stop signs. is reported they think if light has just turned red is okay to still go thru. last weekend 3 kids were killed in traffic accident speed and running stop sign. they had skipped school Friday afternoon
has been reported some kids are playing a game see how fast we can clear intersection

In January of 1975, 42 years ago I was watching a snowmobile race at the local fair grounds and saw a guy get killed in turn one. His wife and two little kids were sitting beside me in the stands though I didn't know she was his wife at the time. Someone came up and got the lady and the two kids sat beside me but I didn't pay attention to where the lady went. Not long after that I saw two guys guiding a staggering lady, holding her hands to her face, away from the accident scene and back to the stands. She then came up beside me and got her two kids. It was then that I realized she was the wife of the driver in the accident. I have never been interested a snowmobile since then. This brought tears to my eyes just typing this.

No snowmobiles here in the South, but we have the redneck equivalent: 4-wheelers. There's a commercial 4-wheeler track here that has been in operation since only 2014, but in that time there have been two deaths and innumerable injuries. Just this Saturday there were some 20 injuries, most in separate incidents, requiring five helicopter med-evac flights. A couple of the injured are still in ICU.

Our idiots have the advantage of being able to kill themselves year-round.

Oh we have year round service too, it just requires double the investment as 2 machines are required.

My trail machine is 1100cc, 170HP, will go 100 MPH all day if you want to. Too many people are riding without the knowledge needed. For example "Runners? do I need runners to stay on the trail? I need runners with carbide to stay on the trail? what? I need to have pics in my track if I want to slow down suddenly?" Here in NH speed limit on all trails is 45 MPH. which may be slow in the morning, but coming back to the congested area in the afternoon may be way too fast for the corners with all the snow pushed off and are now ice. I pay close attention to all of the reported accidents here in NH, and most are middle aged people in areas with a lot of turns where the speeds are rarely high. They get in over their heads. The Fish and Game enforcement guys put most of their effort into chasing after the young guys with hot sleds breaking the speed limit going 70 MPH on a trail that is smooth as glass straight as an arrow for three miles, and packed and groomed forty feet wide.

2underage, what state is this?

Wow, I was just going to ask how fast/powerful those things are. Seems they are quite a bit more powerful than an average 4 wheeler. Do they turn well, like in a curve or such? How about stopping compared to a car or such?

I can't find any info, but there's a better than even chance alcohol was involved. Booze and speed don't mix well.

Latest PITA idiot machine in my area are the side by sides everyone seems to have. Had 2 go by my place a couple days ago in excess of 65mph (and yes, I'm trained in judging the speeds of moving vehicles). No way they could have stopped or avoided anything over the crest of the hill just in front of my barn n our lane and a half road. Morons.

If your a seat sitter they handle very much like an atv only much faster. If your an active rider you
can ride them very much like a dirt bike motorcycle.
