OT: Auto Club

Being a DIY'er, I didn't join an auto club until last April when I was 81 years old and realized that neither my wife nor I could change a flat tire. I was just too weak from the chemo treatments. Didn't have occasion to call AAA until last month for a dead battery in the Tundra. Yesterday I had to call them for a nail in a tire on the Camry, as I just finished another round of chemo on Thursday and Friday (yesterday). It's been 20 years since I had a nail in a tire; this one is a ring shank nail used to nail down roofing tile. I'll let Costco deal with the repair.

Things and circumstances change, that's for sure.
I'm finding that most new cars don't have a spare to change.

Good to hear from you.

That might be something I should look into. So far I have just called my Grandson when I have a problem. I shredded a tire on the SSR last fall and he picked Dixie and I up and took us home and went after the SSR truck with a trailer. I went after a new tire the next day and he put it on for me. Us old DIY'ers feel kinda helpless when get weak enough ya can't pull out stuck boogers.

I should buy AAA for myself but my new car has roadside assistance as part of the warranty. I just bought a new Ram pickup a month ago and it to may have some type of emergency help. I, like Dick L have been relying on my kids to come to my rescue but they are not always available. I am going to look into Triple A again. Happy farming.

Keep posting Dick; always listen to what you have to say. Being a DIY and stubborn German it is difficult to hire someone as i feel i can do it better myself.
I've got a tow bar stored under the shed; towed mine and kids cars many a times. Would not do that today.

I didn't have road side assistance until we bought a motorhome. Used Good Sam to put on spare three times, jump start once, one tow, all covered by plan. Sold motorhome now Shelter insunance has roadside assistance with auto coverage, haven't needed it yet.

AAA put my full size van on a flat bed once, rear chain hold down broke a brake line. I was HOT! Talked to the supervisor and said they would pay for parts-I said that was not the point. Somebody could have DIED! I cancelled them so fast-wont EVER use them again!

Well as we age there are things we just have to adjust to. It is hard to do but at least you can still drive yourself around and function well mentally. Dementia runs in the family that is what worries me. I do not know it the Auto Clubs will help you FIND your car when you lose it. LOL

Have had tripple A for years and used them several times over the years. Several years back the wife decided a different place was better and cheaper, realy got took on that one as no call number but had to find local help (could not do that) and then send them the bill. I don't think we ever got paid and other than the Day my Wife died I think it was about my worst day ever. Spent hours setting at a fairgrounds at a tractor show and none of the members of the club putting it on would help, not even give the name of a towing company. Finaly a sherif deputy came around as the grounds were getting ready to close for the night and he got us help. Made sure got it back again and have not been without it since. I am 73 and also not in good health. But it is not for something like a battery or tire at home but a breakdown on the road. I live in Ohio and they paid to have my truck towed when I lost a timing chain in Canada. And I have the better of their policies.

Triple is good and the plan I have they will tow up to 150 miles no charge. The only thing they will not tow my pickup if Iam pulling my 24 foot deckover trailer.

Talk about coincidences!! My wife went by an accident scene yesterday, with debris on the road. Something sliced the RR tire and ruined it. Called a friend that runs a local auto repair shop and he sent one of his guys to change it. Wasn't repairable, took it back to Sam's Club and cost me only $15.50 for a new tire with their warranty! My buddy didn't charge me because I helped him at no charge recently. Told the wife coming home just now we need to get AAA or something similar, 'cause one day she'll be where I can't get help for her. Then we came home and this subject's on YT! Thanks, guys! Looks like I'll be looking into AAA again!

Check with your car insurance company, mine just gave me Roadside Assistance for free six months ago.(it is probley worth what I paid for it.)
