ed will,

I probably am more guilty than most, I post occasionally and easily contribute to the non-tractor related talk.

D.

ED hate to point this out but no one but you seems to care and IMO good reason. If only tractors were discussed on this page you could keep up with it by checking it once a month. If it were only tractor talk there would be no crop, combine, implement, truck or price discussions either. So you would be a very bored reader. And a lot of the contributors would leave to find forums where that can talk. You'd get lonely here all by yourself.

Rick

lol!Randy that is a dang good point. I often point out to young people that they don't have to post about every bowel movement they have, actually there are some alleged adults that are as bad or worse. On Facebook of course.

Common interests drive conversations. Imagine a pot bellied stove with six nice chairs and 50 gallon wood stave barrel with a few split logs next to them. Nice and warm. No heavy restrictions (except the kids are playing 10 feet away and the language needs to be under modest control). Relax! Jim

Ed, if you want to read about tractors only, go to tractorbynet.com. Lots of just tractor topics by all brands of tractors.

I figure some people need a little pat on the head once in a while and post just to get one, much like the folks that post a picture of their plate on facebook. gm

I think I get Ed Wills point. A lot of the content could be posted on the taler's site but we all seem to get more interesting replies on the tractor site. Personally I do not mind reading different posts on the different forums as there is a lot of interesting posts and comments on all of them. Just be thankful that this forum is here for all to enjoy. Happy farming.

Used to be rules on that, but they loosened up on that maybe 5 years ago.

Seems folk go to the individual brands for tractors, and conversation here.

It's been working pretty good this way.

Hi , just saying, lot of stuff on tractor talk like : what did you have for breakfast.?? Ed Will

I was a lurker on this forum for years before I finally joined. Part of the reason I joined was for the off-topic conversation. Many forums do not allow any off-topic discussion, fearful somebody may get triggered for some reason and will get their feelings hurt. You guys can "push it" and still remain friends. I find that refreshing. My best to you all.

LMAO, Now that was funny . I didnt want to be totally rude but I was kinda thinking Dang Ed you know walkin aint crowded you can always go somewhere else.

I thought that when Tractor Talers was brought up from below that that type of post would be put there, but not so. Not much difference between the two forums now.

I think that was the point of the original poster--instead of one forum for off topic stuff we now seem to have two. Kind of defeats the purpose.
Personally, I couldn't care less. If they choose not to enforce their own rules I guess that's up to them.

Well, if we need a solution (and we probably don't want or need one), just change the title of the forum to "Tractor Talk Plus More" or something like that. Then a small change in the description of what goes on in this forum. Not necessary but it might let us cover all the bases without disagreements etc. For myself, I like both the tractor talk as well as the so-called off topic conversations.

Ed, I come here to get a lot of farm related stuff...like how to store bales, and deter trespassers and catch vermin.

But I can ALSO get a broad section of ideas on issues from people all over the country with different viewpoints and life experiences. Down at the coffee shop I only see locals with mostly the same viewpoints and backgrounds.

If it was only tractors I would visit as needed..about 2 or 3 times a year.

Frankly, I have no interest how to adjust the carb on a 1947 Model Q wide front, but I have lots of interest in
why you guys think we can no longer hire people to stack hay, when unemployment is 10%.

I could use a knock on the head with a hammer, but it'd probably break the hammer!! This site and the weather are the first two places I go in the A.M.. The pot belly stove analogy's a good one!

Exactly this. You learn quickly enough what posts are going to be on topic and what's not, and in many cases learn to know what some of the topics with nonsensical titles are about before clicking on them. In this case, I didn't need to open this thread to know that it would be an off topic, mini-rant about all the off topic posts.

Just for the record, you're right Ed. I have noticed there are already other "categories" but no one seems to care, they just post to "one" spot because they always have. Whatever. Some of it is indeed interesting, but as you say, way off base.

This is a list of OT Threads you started since Christmas 2016.

Every one I listed was in Tractor Tales except for the last on, which
was posted in Tractor Talk. I correct myself.

I think it"s because people are more likely to read here, than on the OT board. So if it"s something you want to get responses to, you post here.

"Off topic" is no worry to me. I find some of the o.t. stuff more interesting than the technical tractor related stuff. The title of the thread gives a clue and I can decide to click or not. Maybe I miss some good stuff that way but theres not enough hours in the day (or night) to see it all. Most forums will overflow into off topic stuff. Its just human nature. Start talking about one thing and the conversation just spreads to other subjects. I guess I'm pretty much guilty of o.t. material on this forum with my photos and video links.

I guess your statement struck a nerve with some it seems. Need to remember this is the internet where people say stuff they would never say to your face. Also a lot of these guys don't have any other social outlet so they need to tell intimate details of prostate exams and how cook eggs to somebody.....you disagree with them, they jump on you....
