600 Ford question

I am fairly sure what the answer is but will ask anyway! Can I remove the valve cover without removing the gas tank?

If I remember right, I read in the manual 10 years ago that you can, unfortunately I couldn't.

I assume that the 600-900 and 601-901 clearances are the same, but I don't really know. My 871 has just enough room to roll the valve cover out with the tank in place. What I found helps a lot is to remove the two studs that the valve cover nuts go on, use threadlocker on the nuts, and just unscrew both the stud and nut when removing the cover. And yes, a person can change the gas shutoff valve without removing the tank. I got pretty good at it when dealing with those lousy lever-type valves.

When I took the cover off on my 600 I just loosened the tank and lifted it enough to get the cover off. I worked from the disturber side and removed the side panel.

I removed the cover on my 640 last year. Yes it can be done but you don't have much clearance. Mine has a Wagner loader on it to reach through too.

Was able to remove the gas valve by just taking the cover off, tight but works
