These two John Deere 22 one-row cotton pickers belonged to my cousin, the guy standing on the head of the picker on the right. The pickers are mounted on JD 730's. This was taken in Louisiana around the late 1950's or early 1960's. He passed away last year.

I own a farmall one row high drum picker that will operate even now. I also have a ben person rust, one row cotton picker that also operates today. I'm the second owner of both pickers. They both are very old and in great condition.

I have cotton equipment that goes further back than that ...........the cotton sack, bonnet and scale that my Mom & her sisters used back in the 'good old' days. One dollar per hundred pounds of after the gin baled cotton. A lot of labor in that dollar!

There is a cotton gin in Burton Tx

It's a museum now, they fire up the Bessimer diesel once a year and run a few bales through.

In it's day, they refused to run machine picked cotton, had to be hand picked. Something about the first cotton pickers left too much hull and stem in, the gin couldn't process it.

There are a few old timers there, telling stories of picking cotton, bringing the bags to the gin in a wagon.

The one thing they all talked about was how hot it was inside the gin. Said they usually ran it at night and early mornings, only way they could stand it!
