1920's 4-cylinder Chevy intake manifold, IMHO.

Not hijacking the thread, but surely others are curious as I am: Do you know the history of that engine? Curious that most of today's surviving competitors ran flat (L) heads for many years. I know GM ran OHV engines early on, but didn't know it went that far back.
 
When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's we used a "hay buck" that my late Uncle had built many years before, which was powered by one of those old Chevy 4's. That is the limit of my experience with them.
 
That photo got me to thinking... how many know what the black tank is on the firewall with the copper line to the intake manifold?
 
Beetle intake would have carb tube 90 degrees turn from picture. First thought was pre war Austin or similar English small 4 cylinder- but 4 cylinder Chevy picture seems right. A hotrodder had a project that started with a 1928 or so Chevy 4 cylinder and that was about like the original engine that was pulled for the small block install. Similar manifolds on Continental 60 and 90 inch units, the larger engines had 'flatter' center sections. Willys Jeep engines were down draft carbs, sort of similar. RN
 
Yes.....they would look like intake manifolds for a Chevrolet 4cyl ohv engine which were
built prior to changing to 6cyl in 1929. They were actually a pretty sophisticated
engine for the times compared to the flahead 4cyl. engines being used by Ford.

I actually have several of these engines that I recently acquired at a farm sale. I hope
to possibly use one in the re-creation of a 1930's era "speedster" type race car.

I could actually use one or both of those manifolds or any other parts you may have for
those engines.

Either nobody knows or you were right on. I think diaphragm fuel pumps, driven from a lobe on the crank were on the intake side of the inline engines. I don't see one and the carb is fed from that "hootus".
 
Unlike a Ford with the fuel tank up over the engine in front of the windshield using gravity feed and no pump, I think I see the input fuel line coming from lower down and from the rear. Makes sense to me that you nailed it right on!

project I am putting together.
