What Herbicide?

Trying to clean up a small older Pecan tree orchard. Trees are 50+ years old. Terrible amount of underbrush and ground vines. Anyone have any experience/recommendations on what type of herbicide I can safely use around these old trees once I remove the underbrush? Thanks...

I use both glyphosate and paraquat. I try to use glyphosate the least. I use a shielded spray hood so spray doesn't come in contact with bark. For pre-emergent I use Marengo. This works very good, but is costly.

How many pecan trees do you have ? We have a large number we planted about 10 years ago and one very productive 25 year old tree. We use Princep WD mixed with Round Up. Should be mixing instructions with the Princep. Your timing is good on this. Apply right before green up and prior to the tree growing any leaves for at least 6 feet around the drip line. We use the hand sprayer attached to my boomless sprayer. Don't spray directly on the tree. Use surfectant. Use liquid Sevin to control tent catapillars , Pecan Case Nut borer and other bugs. Are you harvesting the nuts off yours already ? We hope to make this a side business. My Wife bakes a killer Praline from our big Missouri Peans.
