Farmall Super C hydraulics.

My fire dept bought a Super C to mow our property. We mounted a 6 ft three point finish mower on it. When we raise the mower it goes up quickly but when we lower it it is very slow and causes the engine to lug a little. I don't think this is normal. Anybody have any ideas?

Think the problem is in the little square box in front of the seat/tool box that the hoses go through.

Mine does the same thing, load the motor that is. While it IS slower moving to the rear, it's not absurdly slow.As long as you hear the load removed from the motor when the arms stop, I would guess it is probably ok. The valving in the cylinder block is complicated, and I think that the oil has to go thru an orifice while lowering,to keep a heavy implement from dropping too fast. Just a guess. but I would change the oil if you just bought it, just to make sure the right stuff is in it. Only holds 2 quarts.

Here's a picture of that check valve, think it's supposed to keep the hitch from dropping if a hose breaks and also to slow the drop of a heavy implement. Some say that's how there supposed to work but I don't know how any body could have the patients to lower that painfully slow hitch. I must of had mine apart a dozen times before I fixed it, drilled two of the hose ports out, don't remember how much. With the valve apart I think you'll see two of the hose ports are small, one is big and the other couldn't be drilled anyway. I opened the two small ones a bit size or two, it goes up fast and lowers just a little slower. Did that 15 or 20 years ago.

There is a drop- retarder valve in the block by the drivers seat its job is to stop the fast hitch from going down too fast nothing is wrong with your system

My old granddad had 1 that I ran back in the 60's. did the same thing. He said it had been that way from day 1. darn great little tractor.

Woops, didn't notice you were talking 3 pt. hitch. If you have an after market 3 pt. and not using that 2 pt. check valve I don't know what could be wrong.
