It's one thing to lose a nut or a screw or a socket but a new MUFFLER? I guess it's time to stop re-assembly on the naa and clean the shop. Man I hate when that happens.

That muffler just MIGHT be on the tractor already.

Dad and I lost a fertilizer tube off the corn planter right in the shop one time. We finally gave up and went and got a new one. We found the other one a few weeks later in an old seed corn bag.

I had a brand new plastic trashcan that I was storing long skinny stuff in (like the new muffler for my 3020). My son borrowed the garage and started throwing trash in that trashcan. Luckily he would never actually dump the trashcan, so I caught it in time.

Don't laugh fellow was plowing or working in a field. A forest fire broke out so he took off to help with it. Somewhere in the shuffle he lost his watch, jackknife and so on. Something like 30 years later (he had bought that piece of land) he was plowing it for a crop and well he found his items!!!

I lost a set of tire chains for my pickup one time (this was before we all had 4-wheel drive). I hunted everywhere for them. 25 years later we moved to a different place and I found them - in the box they came in - clearly marked "tire chains". I thought there were lawn mower parts in that box. After all, isn't that where you would put mower parts - in a box marked tire chains? (And that was before I was old. Now I have an excuse.)

I once bought a two foot long shaft a month in advance of a major repair job. I got the machine torn down and could not find the $200.00 shaft. After spending the better part of a day looking I finally ordered another. Within minutes of getting the replacement in, there was the first one leaning against the wall next to my work bench. I just never looked from the right angle.

I am at a point that I simply sit in the swivel chair in the garage and slowly turn round and round, move the chair 10 feet and do it again. Have the beverage of choice in your hand and its amazing what you will see. May not always find what you were looking for that time but you will find something you have been looking for.

I took the tail wheel off a JD sickle mower about 3 years ago because the tire was shot. Finally found a new 9" tire at an auction this summer, mounted it on the rim, and now I can not find the swivel assembly anywhere. Even went thru the iron piles and junk piles as well as all the buildings. Gotta be here somewhere. And no, it is not on the mower. LOL

Bob in SD, I was threading pipe with the hand threader at a place I worked several years ago.

I had just finished threading, the threader was dripping cutting oil, so I leaned it across the full trash can at the end of the work bench to drain in the trash.

Left it there for about 5 minutes, came back, it was gone, trash emptied.

Realized what happened, went asking all the likely suspects as to who emptied the trash and where did they put the threader. Of course this meant bringing each to the scene, explaining what I was asking, all afraid they were in trouble, so got the universal (insert heavy Spanish accent) "Me doonnn knoww" response.

Within 10 minutes I decided to go dumpster diving...

Just in time to see the garbage truck leaving!

I feel your pain. Years back I was changing the engine in my old pickup. Engine set and all I needed to do was put the valve covers on and fire it up. Had the valve cover gaskets in my hand and decided to break for lunch. Got back out to the shop after lunch and and could not for the life of me find those gaskets. Looked for two hours. Finally found them hanging on the control lever of the center post lift.

At least if it is an adult beverage as the time passes and you don't find it instead of getting more frustrated you will become more mellow.

Have a small hand scythe when done using it always stuck it in a split in a cedar post in the barn. A year ago last fall could not find it. Last winter found it and there was no reason to move it because I could remember where it was at. This summer could not remember where I seen it. The other day found it hanging on a couple nails behind the drill press in the garage in plain view.

24 years ago I moved onto this place. When I moved one pickup load of misc. stuff I unloaded it in the old granary. That fall I wanted to cut some corn shocks with the corn knife I unloaded. Looked through the granary for half day and finally found knife. Used it and set it back in granary. Went to get it following year and couldn't find it. Been looking for it for last 22 years.

At least you found the muffler & didn"t lose the tractor doing it.
I can"t find anything that I moved from Katy AND I can"t find half of what I had here in St John because the stuff from Katy is covering it up.

In the last year I have moved everything in the small shop, here at the house, twice. I repoured some of the concrete floor in the fall of 2015. So I had to move most of everything around. Then this last summer I had the ceiling sprayed foamed and painted. I moved everything outside to try and miss the over spray. I still have several pallets to unpack. I am still hunting for things daily.

It is even better when you look for something, such as a muffler, and come to find out you never bought it in the first place.

I lost a 3/8 drive ratchet for many years. When I moved to the ranch I found it on my trailer deck. It fell out of the 33 Chrysler I was moving. At least I figured out were I used it last. That was 26 years ago and I have not lost it again. Steve
