OT rrlund - elliptical

Howdy. You seem to be having great success with your machine, and am interested. I Have developed a new discipline in the last year - LAZY. I am the same weight I have been for at least 10 years, here's the kicker, no muscle tone. I have a circulation problem with my calfs so walking (which I love ) has become a source of pain. Do you think this type of unit would help ? Thanks, Bob

I'm no doctor or personal trainer, but like I told somebody yesterday,it's low impact. There's no shock to the joints or anything. It'll definitely tone you up if you can do it. If you're like me,the first time you get on it you're gonna say "No way". I felt like my legs were on fire,I was soaked with sweat and I felt like my heart was coming out of my chest, but I toughed it out for a full minute. For $90 you don't have that much to loose, just keep in mind,it's nothing at all like walking on a treadmill. You'll just have to stick with it and try to get used to it.

I wish I had ceiling height in my basement for one. I use a treadmill in the winter, and that's OK but lots of people I know claim the elliptical is better. The treadmill doesn't do much for my lower back, my son uses an elliptical sometimes and says is does a much better job on his back. (He's also 35 years younger, much more active, and in actual good shape vs me ["hey, round is a shape"])

The second week on mine,it had my back muscles so messed up I could barely walk. I'd lean against the wall in the morning to get to it,do about 15 seconds to get limbered up and I could do chores alright. By the time I got back in I was all hunched over again, but I'd get on it for ten minutes and be alright again for a while. It went on for about a week, but I haven't had a seconds trouble with my back since, and it's been just shy of a year now. You'd be amazed how many muscles those things work. I've found that it works different muscles in my shoulders depending on how I hold on to the handles. I do half my time with my hands on top of them, the rest with them on the sides.

I was meaning to ask, but never got around to it. I am in the best shape of my life, I was over 240 when I got out of high school and not much for ambition, after changing my diet I am 33 years and 170 pounds and full of ambition, but my hips and knees have been bothering me for years, will it help them, I wouldn't think it could make them worse.

Having core muscles in good condition definitly helps to keep the back in alignment. It is great that it has been so good for you. I get plenty of exersize at work but thinking of trying the elliptical, we got one for the missus.

Ordered the same unit ( just by rating and chance) from Amazon.ca - about the same price as you with the silly exchange rate. Thanks again, will report. b

If you have muscle pain like I think you mean, you should get tested for peripheral artery disease It is when the arteries in the legs get clogged like the heart arteries do before you get a heart attack. Not trying to scare you, but it is a serious issue.

Before you drop money on a home unit, maybe ask at the local YMCA or Anytime type gym if you can have a two-week trial membership or something similar. You could give a couple different types of units a try, maybe only for $10 or 20...

I know not everyone has a neighborhood gym, or even a neighborhood for that matter. Just a suggestion...
