Deere Introduced an all electric tractor in France. Has 2 150k DC motors. Total horsepower is approx. 400. Prototype to be on display at SIMA farm show in France. Video at farmshow. com. Has lithium ion batteries. That will give guildo , George and the battery guys something to work on.

how long does a battery charge last and how long to recharge ?
Sorry greenies but the low energy density of batteries and high cost make your electric tractor useable for 4 hours in a 24hr around the clock operation.

What a coincidence; 4 hours work out of 24 was about the same duty cycle that we got out of our '48 Model G!

Crab about the batteries all you want, but if people didn't try new things we would never have any advances in technology.

Imagine if the horse farmers had their way when people started experimenting with the first tractors.

Maybe the battery technology isn't there now, but the designers of the first tractors had a lot more challenges than that to overcome.

The battery technology will never be there unless the Almighty adds new elements to the periodic table .
Lithium is the most reactive compound there is at room temperature and atmospheric pressure to manufacture a rechargeable battery.
Battery powered machinery is nothing new. Engineers have been working non stop to increase the range of battery powered submarines since the late 1800's. How far has all that military and civilian research improved the same old batteries?

Don't shoot the messenger, I just thought some would find it interesting. Not planning on gong to France to import one.

Electric golf carts have been proven. Electric cars? the jury is still out. Whenever the folks who build the electric cars can build one that will go across the U.S. without needing to recharge, then it MIGHT be time for the ag industry to step in. Until then, stick with diesel power.

I' m not fer or agin, I like to see people think outside the box and an electric tractor is outside the box. A couple of years ago I saw a Ford 8N that a guy had converted to solar electric. He claimed it could be charged in a day on a cloudy day and run for several hours. As to the OP, I wonder what the fuel cost is per HP put to the ground.
Trains have a diesel/electric powerplant. I have no idea how that comes out in cost but it must work out Ok since it's been done for quite some time.
The obstacles for electric tractors may be over come but there are so many greenies that think electricity is produced for free. I question if a fair comparison of cost of production per HP between petroleum and electric is available.
