We had had freezing rain here all day. It really is not building up much as the temperatures are above freezing for the most part. So we have wet ice. The roads are not bad to get around on but the drive ways are tough right now. So even with chains on all four wheels on the tractor and the feeder wagon having chains on both wheels your still slipping around. One feed bunk has the yard tapering away from the bunk. I could not keep the feeder wagon close enough to reach the bunk. I tried it twice and finally dumped the feed on the ground and went and got the skid steer (had chains on it too). I then just bumped the feed into the bunks bucket at a time. Spread two loads of sand in the cattle yards to help prevent any injured cattle.

The brood cows did not come up to the house at all today they stayed in/under the pine trees at the back of the pasture. They actually stayed pretty dry under the trees. They are smarter than a fellow thinks. If they have feed and water plus some thing to help shelter them out of the worst weather they will do fine on their own.

I spent quite a bit of time last winter working on NG compression site at Beaver OK, they got an inch of ice.

My pastures where I feed are pretty steep. I was feeding round bales with 986 international with 4 rib tires, I had to fight the braked to keep from sliding into places I would not want to be in. One moment was exciting as I was in too fast a gear

i didnt have to start any tractors but it is raining here in s.e. minnesota dad didnt winter any cattle this year. i fed his cats and chickens. i used a 5 tine manure fork to get to the barn. dad use to use one to get around when he could get out it was still in the house.i had to skate down hill to my barn fed the goats the sheep have a round bale in the pasture. took my 5 tine manure fork to go back to my house. sometimes dads have good ideas. i am worried about the ice smothering the hay but i think we have enough snow so far.

David The world did not end???? Did it????? LOL It is not bad to get around on the roads but the drive ways are slick. It is not bad, the temperatures are going to be in the 40-50s in just a few days so this will all be gone quickly.

Nope, world has not ended, the sky is not falling, it will sometime, but doubt I will see that in my lifetime.

Very icy here too. The main farm buildings are down in a valley from my house. The gravel township roads are glare polished ice. Had to chain up the pickup to get home yesterday. Tractors are chained up as they are all winter. Sure glad we have 10 inches or so of snow on the ground so the cattle are not trapped up on the hill or injuring themselves from falling. Township grader just went by with a carbide blade. That sure chews up the ice! Stay safe everyone!

Two weeks ago I tried twice to get out of the yard on wet ice with a triaxle dump. First in 2nd then in 3rd. I got further in 3rd, but still a pretty good distance from the top of the hill.
