If it had been a snake....

...I wouldn't be writing this now. So an examination of the removed wobble box revealed this. That would be two retainers and a bearing completely missing. If it were not raining AND icey AND probably muddy as all heck, I would go out and see could I find any of the remains of these parts. SOOOO...I'm thinking that is how the knife head got broke twice???? 8)

Is that the bottom? I think it is. I was going to mention that in checking over my 1020, I didn't like the looks of the bottom pivot bearing. But then I believe you have an 820, and I don't know if they're the same. I pressed a new shaft into the wobble frame, and installed a new bearing. I think there are seals in there also. It's greasable, and being on the bottom, I grease it often. Seems like I recall something about greasing it wants to push a seal out? Memory is a great thing, until you lose it!

I sent my mechanic's stethoscope to my nephew on the farm a few years ago; he wondered if he'd ever use it. Last year he thought the wobble box sounded different. He listened with the stethoscope and pin-pointed exactly which bearing was going bad so he could change it before it broke anything else.
