Putting ring gear on belt pulley and adding starter

I have a Case CC that I would feel a little more comfortable with starting it with a starter. I hand crank it, but it is a bit scary to think what "could" happen if things went wrong. I only start it a hand full of times a year anyway, so I would just hook battery up to starter and recharge battery with charger. What should I try and find for a starter/ ring gear? I'm guessing I should try and get one from a case dc since horsepower is covered for cranking. Any ideas? Thanks, Donald

How about converting a gen to a motor and using a belt?

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do. If you want to use a belt to start your tractor, my 1960 10 hp cub cadet used a 12v belt drive starter, which after starting the starter became a generator. It used the old voltage regulator which consisted of relays. Only problem, the starter/generator was over $100 and I had to replace it every few years. Cub was used to mow 2 acres with, so it was used a lot each year.

If you plan to use a belt to start engine, you may need to check the pulley size in engine. If I remember the pulley on cub cadet engine was larger than anything I've seen on a crankshaft on a tractor. Starter belt had to be good and tight or it would slip.

I've seen some starters rigged up on the drive pulley. No real rules for doing it, just what ever you can make work. A gear reduction starter will be smaller, draw less battery, and have more torque.

Is it old enough that it doesn't have the hole in the bellhousing for the starter?
Ring gear on the belt pulley is the most common conversion. Doesn't need to be a Case starter....have seen Chev flex plates and starters used.

I put a post on here about using a 1/2" cordless drill on a setup to crank from the crank hole using a bicycle sprocket and a pipe to touch the ground. his is from an earlier post:
A 3/4" electric drill will also crank the tractor easily. Take a hand crank and cut off the lever and handle. Grind 3 flats on the shank to fit in the drill chuck. Put a long pipe in the handle threads that will touch the ground (important). the drill will directly crank the engine. I found one on Ebay of the correct type. Jim

I'm not familiar with a Case CC. Here's an interesting idea used on a JD. Could you use something like this?

I saw this on the internet.

The use of a 4 foot piece of iron pipe in this sized drill with a crank snout cut off and ground flat on 3 sides, will turn the engine directly. 1/2" Cordless drills might work, but need a gear reduction of about 8 to 1 to get torque. Jim
one that will turn it.

We used to use a modified heavy duty right angle grinder to start a v-4 Wisconsin engine. Had to have a power source or good generator to run the grinder.
