Atv brush mower opinions.

I'm looking to buy an atv brush mower. Seems like DR and Swisher are the most common, have seen the Swisher, but no DR dealers close. DR
is quite a bit more money, but without seeing one is it worth it? I will be using it mostly for about 4 foot tall grass and light brush. I run
construction equipment for a living and know the limitations of equipment. So I don't push equipment beyond or up to the limit. Whatever I buy
it will be used within its limits. Any opinions on these two or other brands will be appreciated. Thank You.

I had a 60in swisher finish mower for a few years. When i was done with it, my dad used it to mow 2 acres for 7yrs. Then i sold it to my neighbor and he still is using it. 10-12 years old now. A heavy built unit. Any part you needed was available at tsc or online. Did a good job. If the brush cutters are built as good, they should be decent.

DR is of the user by the user for the user built by and sold by the user. I have 2 string trimmers, one push and one tow behind fence trimmer, 2 of the tow behind leaf vacs, a 52 inch Pro Z mower and probably a couple of other things that don't immediately come to mind.

In describing their products in short I'd say "over built". Very heavy duty and they are constantly improving and reducing the cost of their products. Example is my second leaf vac. Very user friendly as compared to their original. But they had to get their feet wet, they did and went from there. I understand they are now a division of Generac and I have one of those too for my whole house.

I have had 3 of the components listed since 2005 and have replaced nothing but sparkplugs once and trimmer strings, oil and filters.

Get some spec sheets on each unit...check for deck plate thickness, skirt thickness, if they are welded together or press formed. Big difference in what some mfgrs use and how they put it together- whether mowers, brush cutters, etc. I bought a 6 foot skidsteer brush cutter in 2014 and compared a number of them. Gearboxes and bearings vary a lot as well.

You could buy a brush hog and a Tractor for what they want for them...and have much greater capacity.....

if your into light brush, dont, the mower isn't up to it, and with an atv your spend most of your time fixing flat tires if it has the standard tires on it, you will be much better off and have way more options finding a used 25 to 40 hp tractor and brush hog

I have a Swisher 44" Brushcutter that does a fairly good job. Not by any means like a finish mower but it's not suppose to be. As long as you go along about 2 to 3 MPH it does a pretty good job cutting. Does not cut well when you are making a turn. And due to vibration you have to really keep a check on it and be sure bolts stay tightened. I did have the screws vibrate out of the butterfly, work their way thorough the engine and found them in the muffler. Was I was able to reuse one but the other got dinged up by a valve and had to be replaced.

I have an Allis Chalmers CA and a King Kutter 5ft pull type cutter I use for small jobs it'll cut circles around those DR rigs and have less then $1000 in the whole set up.Plus the CA
is a very handy tractor to pull a firewood trailer and the like.
