This is a little ot but hope I might get some dairymen to give me some advice. We have been out of the dairy business for several years. The question being, is there any value for the glass and stainless steel milk lines we no longer use. Thanks for any advice.

Hi,we posted ours online for sale and we sold it all
luckily. I don't remember what we got for it as we sold the entire system (early 80's Surge) together. Had maybe 250' of 2" line 100+ Alamo surge vein pump wash panel and receiver group. I'm thinking we maybe got $1500 for everything?

Thought I read somewhere that a welder was using it to make outdoor stuff like picnic tables. [The stainless line not the glass] Don't remember the exact details, but wouldn't rust.

It depends somewhat on the size... and in any case the best value might be for building material. I just used some 2 and 3" stuff last week for something I was building. I needed a few scraps fore something, and I picked some up at the local milking equipment dealer. He wanted 3$ a foot for 3".

The glass stuff may have some value to someone who has one and needs a piece. Those customers are few and far between, however.

Pretty much nothing on the glass line. The stainless line, if about 2 inch, makes good fert tubes for the JD 7000 planter. Pinch the bottom end about half shut, to fit between the opener discs, and clamp the rubber tube to the top.

When my dad was milking the whole barn was glass. He sold it way back but you say it is now worthless. Uff.

I wouldn't think the glass is worth much. But if the SS is 2" or bigger you should be able to sell it.Not a big market around here for used pipeline systems but there still is always someone looking for them if you are patient.

Was at an auction years ago where they had glass pipe from the barn, the whole lot sold for a dollar. If you can't sell the steel for dairy use it would be worth something for repurposing as mentioned. Scrap prices aren't very high right now.

Depends on where you are. Here in NY's maple syrup areas, Bulk tanks and the SS pipeline equipment are being repurposed for maple sap storage, filtration and sap transfer within the sap houses.

i was at an auction about 14 years and they were selling the whole milking system minus the bulk tank and sinks. scrap guy got the tank for about $10. i got a sink for $15 scrap guy got the other sink for $10. the auctioneer was selling the rest of the milking setup as a lot. I went in the parlor just out of curiosity. he couldn't get a bid. I bought it all for $5. 2 vac pumps, one surge one delaval. about 50 ft glass pipepline. some SS line, surge electronic controller. 4 surge milkers (very early pipeline) that were basically like an old belly milker with a glass bowl still used a strap to hang them on the cow, an old in sink automatic milker washer, vacuum set up for the bulk tank (system actually pulled vacuum thru the bulk tank (sealed) instead of a collector jar/pump), over the cow straps and some misc stuff. sold 95% of it on ebaay.

some of the smaller glass pipe (elbows ect) went to Vermont/new Hampshire for maple pipelines i suspect. a local guy bought the larger/longer glass pipe. Don't recall what he was gonna use it for. Not dairy if i recall. a couple smaller pieces went to city addresses. not sure i want to know what they might be used for.

had a few pieces of SS pipe, elbows clamps. all sold and got good $. seems like the clamps went pretty high $ if i recall. that was back when ebbay fees were reasonable.

sold parts from Vermont to Washington state and Oregon to Texas to Michigan to North Carolina. pretty much the whole country. Was kinda interesting to see where it all went.
