About a week before Christmas, my brother emailed us that the normal Christmas gathering would be to much for Dad's wife to handle, and so he suggested that each of us have our own family gathering. We invited Dad and his wife to my house and they accepted. The 26th was their wedding anniversary. All the family that would have normally gone to Dad's house, for Christmas, gathered at a local Bars meeting room. We ordered pizzas and appetizers and drinks. During this get together I wondered to myself if Dad was going to hand out any envelopes. For Christmas he will give each of a check for whatever amount suits his mood. One year, after they had inherited some money, we got $1000, but usually it will be $100 to $300. I never gave it another thought.
On the twelve of January, I got and email from my oldest sister. Dad had wanted her to share with all of us that this years Christmas present was that we paid for a well in Africa, for villagers who do not have any fresh water near their village. The week before Christmas I upgrade my water system to the tune of $4350.
I do not disagree with what Dad wants to do with his money, but if I am going to give a gift to some one, I think it should be from me. I still think it is funny. Kind of like the time I got in trouble for crashing a tractor, that my brother crashed. Because I was the only one that was supposed to drive it.
