Lighting help. LED?

I'm just beating this old chore truck topic to death. Thanks for continued ideas.

1935 Chevy. Six volt. 12 amp generator.

I've decided LED is probably the best way to go. In searching the net I'm more confused than I was. First, I am having trouble finding corner bed marker lights. Not surface mount. I'm talking about the ones that have an L mount with the glass bullet and bezel perpendicular to the mount. I can screw them to the underside corners and have them face front and rear. Does anyone know of a reproduction house that makes these? Places like Jim Carter deal in old parts but not marker lighting. I'm hesitant to buy a NOS set of fixtures because I don't know if LED bulbs will fit right in. The ones on Fleabay are also one wire which is an issue on a wooden grain box. It had two wire but I guess I have to go with what's available.

If I can fit six volt LED bulbs are they plug and play? It is negative ground, so that's not an issue. I've read that I may need to install a diode or something. These are the little marker size bulbs. I'm leaving the original headlights and tail light/brake light combination. There are LED options all over the net but six volt really changes the game. It had them originally, so someone has to make them for restorations.

And no, Stovebolt doesn't seem to be of help. You all are the brains of the bunch - scary as it may be!

I have not worked with the led light bulbs that much but LED is LIGHT EMITTING DIODE, you should not need a diode but it has to be placed in the proper direction for current to pass. we used to have to have a resister to limit current or the led would burn up. the 12 volt led will have a resister in them, I think, but it will be to much for a 6 volt system ( I would think )

NO external diodes needed, the typical issue with LEDS is if they are installed as turn signal lamps it MAY greatly affect the flashing rate, this is corrected by adding power resistors that simulate the draw of an incandescent lamp. NOT an issue with "marker lamps" on a classic truck.
Hyerflashing turn signals

Google the # of the original bulb that fits the socket you want to use along with LED ('1156 led', etc) and you will get thousands of hits for plug and go LED bulbs. Marker lights will not be a problem but turn signals may require a resistor for the flasher to work properly.

One thing you need to watch, is that most likely your 6 volt truck is positive ground, and most LED bulbs are NOT. You may have to do some rewiring, or a special bulb for the positive ground.

I assume you are trying to keep this truck as close to original appearance as possible.

But, I'm afraid the LED lights will be more obvious than you think. Try taking a good look at LED's on modern vehicles, they have a slight flicker, an obvious brightness, not the "warm glow" incandescents have. They may look slightly out of place on that truck.

Have you looked into finding a higher amp generator? Shouldn't be hard to find, especially if there is a starter/generator shop near you. That would solve the clearance light problem, allow for brighter headlights, give better charging, and be an "out of sight" improvement.

But if you do go with the beehive lights, find the glass lights if you can, something that looks like it belongs without the "made in China" look. Then worry about the lamps and sockets. There is a lot of room inside those lights. With a little ingenuity you can mount just about any socket you need.

You can just swap the bulbs for LED bulbs of the same part number as others have said. If the fixture / lights are broken, see if someone like LMC Truck parts have replacements.
