Read somewhere that the vast majority of guns in the US was owned by a small percent of the people. They said the average number of guns owned by this small group was 17. I went imediately and counted mine, I had 19--- got to get rid of a couple.

I would believe that only a small percentage of people own more than 1 or 2 guns, but I would never believe that only a small percentage of Americans own guns. It is in the interest of those who would take our guns away to make the general public believe that the majority of guns in the US are held by a small group of ''fanatics'' to justify curtailing everyones constitutional rights.

Well I would have to really think or go and count, but it would be more than 15. I guess that makes me a"deplorable" gun nut.

I have no idea how many I have but I know if some one where to open my front door right now I could garb 3 guns before they even knew I was behind them. But if I did know how many I have I would probably not say I had that many

I guess I'm below average again lol.

My humble opinion is you can never have enough. If you want to you should be able to p your money away on something. :) Everyone needs a hobby. Just my hobby alows me to change your opinion out to 600 yards and maybe a little further.

Seeing as there is no national gun registry I'd like to know how They came to that conclusion. I know a lot of people with only one or 2 guns! Like say a shotgun for small game and ducks and a deer gun. And in this so called count did they factor in the criminals and gang members guns?

Between long guns and handguns, between my wife and I' lets just say we're doing our part to increase the average per person for those that only have one or two.....and I hope to have more as soon as Dad decides to let the rest of his go.

I wonder though at people that tell me about how many guns they have, essentially for "Personal Protection". When I ask where they keep the guns, they tell me they are locked away in a gun safe in the basement behind the stairs, furnace, etc. Guess they want to be sure that the kids can't have access to a gun. How long does it take to access a gun safe when a burglar is in the house?

Guy at work said that he has two pistols for personal protection; when I asked where he kept them he replied that they are in a safety deposit box at the bank where his wife works. I don't think that a criminal is going to wait for him to go to the bank.

Your personal protection gun could be put into small end table or night stand safe that can be opened in seconds with a loaded and ready gun.I have no kids home so I keep one on my belt all the time and sleep with one at night.

He better be careful telling anyone they are in a safe deposit box. It is a federal offense to carry a gun in a bank, you have to carry a gun in a bank to put it in a safe deposit box. I just recently moved my safe deposit stuff to another bank. Bank manager was adamant about the gun thing. It was on the list of "not supposed to's". She said "We can't legally ask what you put in it, but I remind people it is illegal to carry a gun in a bank, and you would have to be carrying a gun in the bank to put it in your vault box."

I keep one next to my bed, in a safe, that I can open with only the swipe of my, or my wife's finger print. Also have many more. Just because I like em.

I'm in the same boat but the danger here is that, like my other tools, I've begun to forget where I've stashed them

Any time there are statistics involving guns, you rarely find any differentiation made between legally owned guns and those owned/possessed by criminals. It doesn't help the agenda to find out Joe Average and his 10 or 15 guns aren't any kind of a problem at all!

LOL Bret, I know that. More or less making fun of this so called statistic. Kinda funny but NY passed all their gun laws a few years back with a mandatory state registration. They still don't know who owns what except for the people who actually registered SOME guns. I remember a report that came out 7 or 8 years that had close to 50% of homes with at least 1 legally owned firearm. I even remember politicians citing that number in speeches! Not they are trying to make it sound like only about 10% own all the guns.

Rick

You better look it up there is only one state that has a law saying you can't carry gun in bank and that is Montana. Banks can ask you not to carry in bank.

That I do not do at least with my guns. Now a couple that are my wife's well I do not know where they are but her pistols both do not work as they should so some times the boy has them

I really don't know about their source, but I have 2 friends that own well over 100, and another who is up to 300. His whole house is full. All nice guys. I've always said, the problem with guns isn't gun nuts, but nuts with guns.... :D

would say that is right, though I do not know about the 17 number. While most people in large cities do not own guns, most rural people and people in small to medium cities do, and not just for personal defense. Squirrel hunting, varmint hunting, deer hunting, bird hunting, etc. Different guns and calibers work better for each of these categories, not to mention having your fathers gun he brought back from the war, or the first gun you bought, or one from a friend, all of which are keepsakes, but are counted in with that.

I think you're a little confused on the NY "SAFE Act". That was for so called "assault guns", not all guns.
