Here is a picture of what I am saying. Going form left to right you see one bale just under the Case VAC steering wheel tha the are not eating on. Then in the middle the white horse is standing where the bale was that they have pretty much destroyed. Then you move tot the right a bit and see the black and white horse that is the other bale they are not eating much of. All the way to the right is a pile of old hay that got wet in Dec. of 2015 that I have piled up so it will compost down

Horses have little in common with horse sense. I have seen them eat from one fed small square, and not the next from the same field. It could be as simple as a weed they find less desirable on the surface of one of them, and not the other. It looks a bit slickery, I would at most stick a three tined hay fork into the others and give them the idea it is ""new"" Jim

Yep a bit on th slick side here right now. If your not careful one can end up on there back sides look up and feeling real cold

I'd be celebrating the fact that they're not shredding all of them so they're exposed to the weather and going to waste.
What's the plan behind putting out so much at one time anyway? I feed the cows twice a day.

Old, why is it that every picture I see of your place has junk and more junk??? And even more junk?? Do you collect old junk cars and trucks or what???

That is just exactly the same thing wife's dam goats do. They will jump upon a new bale, crap all over it and go eat a 3 or 4 year old rotten bale. This is every time. Oh well I got 30 + old bales they can eat.

Simple. I do not believe in wasting any thing. I was taught waste not want not so I keep a lot of old stuff around and over the years it has help me fix many things when I need that odd part. I live so far out no one sees it any how other then me and I do not mind it being here. Place in many ways it is a savings account if I really need $$ I can always scrap something but since I do not believe in scrapping and sending it to China I don't. So where is the problem with it??????? Plus if things ever where to hit the fan it gives me places to hide so I can shoot back if I need to

I don't know anything about horses...

But great picture, Old! Though ice is treacherous... the old Case sure looks beautiful with her icicles.

The Case VAC had been my fence repair tractor this fall and is still set up with the work plate form on back with the fence tools still on it.

I call it part for future repairs and a simple hurts nothing savings account for the future if I need some $$

For me,I've got junk like that around for the same reason a dog licks itself. Because I can.

Yep always gets me when some one complains about things like that but it is not where they have any reason to worry about it. I know of a person who made canopies for his tractor and used car hoods to do so mounted to rops

I don't know but I can ask my hay costumers, they seam to know everything. I can be throwing down hay on their trailer from the same baling that all looks the same to me and they will toss half to the side saying "my horse will never eat that"

I wasn't either but then again we moved every 3-6 years so hard to ever collect much of any thing. But now that I have lived here for the past 36 plus years will be 37 in July I have learned that having a lot of this type of stuff around is an asset not a liability. Like when you need say a hose clamp to fix something so you can finish baling hay due to weather coming in you can look at the junk cars and find one or if you need a piece of metal to weld on to fix something you have it on hand. ETC ETC. I have fixed many many things by pulling stuff out of my junk piles and I have more then just one or 2. I've had more then one person tell me I should haul of my iron pile and I tell them heck no that is there for having metal to fix things when I need it. Cost of new steel is very high and lot of the newer steel is not as good as this old stuff is

For just 3 horses, just put out one bale at a time. When they get hungry, they'll eat it. With 3, they're just picking the best one, and wallowing the other 2.

Never got a lesson in manners and minding your own darn business growing up, eh?

Where do you get the idea there are just 3??????????????? I have 6 of them in that area and 3 mini horses in another area

I always thought of hay as being valuable because of how much work it is to put up good hay. In order to not waste it we always fed twice a day so that it would not go to waste. So far as spare parts, I found that it works a lot better for me to keep my hose clamps in a bin marked "hose clamps", then I have a rack for angle, bar and tube stock, a space between two shelves where I keep my sheet metal, and a couple five gal. buckets for smaller pieces. Get things fixed and back to work a lot faster if I can just reach and grab what I need, instead of searching around out doors through weeds and brush.

Well I'll do thing my way you do yours your way but either way none of your business how I do things and since you do not have a clue why I did it the way I do why don't you just stop answer my post unless you can be positive when you do

Hey there young fella, I was just telling how I do it. Did I say that that I thought that you should do it the same way?

Plus the way I do it I get broccoli and cabbage heads the size of gallon buckets and all in all a very good growing garden with all the compost I get from the wasted hay and horse manure
