After the discussion below about Drill doctors, thought I'd throw this one out too.

Bought a Worksharp knife sharpener a couple years ago, and it does work...fast. Didn't buy the fancier Ken onion edition, just the standard model. And I only use it on knives, so couldn't tell you about scissors, mower blades or anything else.

If a guy wanted to take the time with a good set of stones, he could probably get them sharper, but I don't have (or don't want to take) the time for that. The edge this produces is plenty sharp for me

I do finish them off with a steel when I'm done.

I've bought different sharpening gizmos over the years that just didn't work well or at all.

It's almost refreshing to buy something that'll do what it says.

Anybody else got one?

Your basically using a small belt sander to sharpen your knives. I have the belts to do this same thing on my small belt sander. Including the leather belt to finish the edge.

For some reason I never developed the skill or had the patience to do any good with a stone, but the Work Sharp (standard model) does a good enough job to satisfy me. There is a learning curve with it though.
