Distinctive sounds

Not trying to hijack Flying Belgan's post below, but I was just last week talking to my family about sounds from my past that are no longer here. For example I can close my eyes and still hear Dad starting the engine on the New Holland 68 baler, tightening the belt and bringing it to life, and the whining and groaning of the engine with each stroke of the plunger as it crosses the field. We came up with a whole list of sounds, brought back many memories.

Hi you just jogged my memory, I remember starting our NH 66 baler with little Wisconsin engine. It had a small smooth disc out front that fit your hands. I would stand on the hitch, choke the motor, set throttle, grab the disc and jump off the hitch. When it started , push choke in, open throttle, pull lever down and hear the belts squeel until everything started going and baler was rocking the MF35 tractor. I still can hear it in my mind. Thanks.Ed Will Oliver BC

one sound i do miss is the john deere D working in the field. on a quiet evening you could hear them for miles.
also the rooster crowing in the morning i miss. these new tractors are just another noise.

The Wisconsin engine on the Case hand tied wire tie baler dad and a neighbor shared back in the fifties. The hitch pin jingling in the drawbar of the neighbor's SC Case when he was coming up the road to our house in the morning to haul ear corn.

The sound of my M_M U tractor just running along at half throttle cultivating corn was music to my ears. clint

The sound of my New Holland mdl.77 baling hay. The sound of the vacuum pump and the milking machines running. The roosters crowing in the morning. The sound of the JD-A climbing a hill with a load of hay. A few of the sound that were music to my ears..

the sound of a Fairbanks-Morris motor powering an oil well pumpjack in some back holler on a sunny Fall afternoon while squirrel hunting - putt-putt-putt-BANG, putt-putt....
ahhh... the good old days!

rrman61 add a cab to that 1950 with that door rattling. Another is a 6 cylinder with a split manifold and straight pipes.
