john deere 1969 3020 row crop?

Found 1969 gas row crop 3020. Anyone know worth $2400 and are they any count? Ive heard gas models hard to get running? Never had one was going take look at it to buy if its worth anything.
 
I have had two gas 3020's. Both were very difficult to get to run right. Black smoke, hard to start when hot, but if it were close to me I would give that for it if it was complete and not too b eat up. With my luck, it is probably 1000 miles away.
 
Man said this one was running then just quite. So not to sure whats up with that... said had new carb battery etc.
 
Gas 3020's are no more harder or easier to "get running" than any other contemporary gasoline powered tractor of that era. DEERE didn't make the carburetors, nor did any of the other tractor makers, Zenith or Marvel Schebler did, and there's lovers and haters of both! Massive Ferguson, Ford, IH, and Murderapolis Moldine used carbs supplied by the same two mfgers,

I guess I am lucky, I have a gas 4020 "Ingrid" and she does all I can expect from her.

The detractors of these machines either never owned one, or never had the carb clean and set up correctly.
 
A bad condenser can burn the points enough to stop a tractor like that - an easy fix. Do not try fixing a non-running tractor before the sale is completed. Once it's running again the value more than doubles, and the price can instantly double too.

While IH used some Zenith and Marvel carburetors, they made their own as well for H's and M's.
 
JD Seller posted earlier about his gas powered John Deere. I am not sure if it was a 3020 or a 4020 but he was not very happy with it.
 
I bought one not running for a good price like that, then proceeded to fix it up. Now it runs good and looks good, but I spent probably 3,000 on it and it is doubtful if I could ever get my money back if I sold it. But I bought it to pull the 4-row sweetcorn planter and it is very handy for that and it turns on a dime with the narrow front. I put a pertronix on it and a relay for the starter solenoid and it starts good. Uses a lot of gas if you pull anything hard though.
 
In my area $2400 is cheap even for a non runner. If it has good tires you could get a 1/3 or more back with the sale of the tires alone.
 
You could easily triple your money of more. Very desireable as a collector tractor. Be a great tractor ride tractor.
 
I had Robert's Carburetor go through the Carburetor on a 3010, Zenith. They did a good job and bought it up to current spec's. The biggest issue I have had since we put it back into service is the condenser. I have replaced two of them now. I was told the condensers from JD are not reliable. The last condenser I got from NAPA. I hope that works out better. Next year I plan to put Electronic Ignition on it.

The guy said it run great up until had it out side batn running said it pop loud like a backfire and quite running??? Said he put on a new carb new starter plugs etc but still want run? Wonder whats wrong with it? You guys have any clue on these models ?could it have jump time some how?
 

It's a 48 year old tractor. Repair everything that is wrong with it and it will run fine .
The side consoles were all row crops however they could be optioned with standard sheet metal, axles, drawbar etc.
