I dont have any papers or id cards that are required in NJ.That being said,I did go to wal mart and buy a bb gun air rifle .I legally bought and paid for it in PA,no problem. But,,,I dont have any of the NJ stuff that is required to have a gun,,so,,legally I can not bring that gun home to NJ

You are correct. Beleive it or not a Sling Shot is a "gun" in NJ. To make it so you shouldn't get in trouble, wrap an old blanket around it and throw a string or a couple of tywraps around it. That way it is leagle to transport. Not you just it. Crazy ain't it!

Never heard of such a thing as a gun ID but then your out there on the east coast where the y do funny things some times. Guess years ago I got lucky when the cops stopped me in NY for cracked windshield that they did not look real good in my van since I had a rifle under the bed but that was also back in the 70s so I might have been legal. Don't think I could handle living where one has to have a special ID just to have a gun. That is one reason I never tried to get a CCW here in Missouri I did not want the extra paper work which I do not think one should have to have. Now as of Jan 1st I can carry concealed and be legal in Missouri with no paper work

I don't know about New Jersey, but you cannot buy a good slingshot in New York, except through a firearms dealer and with a background check. I was quite surprised when I moved to Michigan and found them for sale in Walmart and Tractor Supply.

As Old asked, beleave it or not you now need your NJ firearms ID card to purchase ammo too. A whole lot of fellow Jerseyites I know now need to take a trip over to Pennsiltucky to a wallmart or a gun show to pick up a few necessary items. Hint hint wink. Trap shooter friend buys a couple of cases now and then. Sticks them in the trunk and does NOT drive like an idiot all of the way home. :) I do so hope that Swamp gets drained and some semblance of common sense comes back into being. Let us see how far the NRA can get things straightened out.

Old, anyone who is not a convicted felon can carry a long gun here in NY state. If you have it in or on a motor vehicle it must be unloaded and some municipalities have local laws against carrying a gun in public. You do not need to be registered or carry a card to have a gun here either. You must have a permit to carry a handgun though.

The land of Lincoln requires you to buy a FOID card, before you can own a gun or buy ammunition. I ll stay in Missouri.

Ya I too prefer living where I can do more with out people knowing I am doing it. I do not an never have liked the idea of having paper work to own a gun or even carry a gun

I hope they pass constitutional carry in all 50 states which would do away with a good number of dumb gun laws

Well at the time I was going up to New London CT so if I remember right I had to go threw NY city with it so I might have been on the wrong side of the law. I do know one time having ti helps me when I had a flat tire. I was jacking my van up and noticed it was also moving as if some one else was jacking it up from the other end. I looked around ti and saw a guy jacking it up on the other side of me. I asked him what he was doing and he said your taking the tires on that side I'm taking them on this side. I then stepped back and then back around but had the gun in my hands and told him it was my van and you best leave NOW he did and he even left his jack for me

When I was stationed at Damneck VA I threw gun away. I threw it in the bay because it would fire when the bullet was not lined up to the barrel like it should have been so you got half the bullet out the barrel which to me seemed way to unsafe to shot

Illinois has the stupidest gun law ever. Residents are required to has FOID ID card to buy guns and ammo. But if you are from a border state, you can buy all the ammo you want without a card. I am from Indiana and have bought lots of 22LR at a Walmart in Illinois. So if you are a gang banger from Chi town and are short on caps, all you have to say is "I'm from Indiana."

Ya I know places like CA and IL do some very funny stuff when it comes to guns. Makes me wonder if they do not understand the word infringed which is in the 2nd amendment and say flat out that gun right shell not be infringed upon

there were some sling shots around here from yrs ago and I just found out they are illegal because they have the wrist guard or brace on them, I didn't know that the law had been changed yrs ago making them illegal..

They also do not understand the words "of the people". To clear up any confusion on what that means, (people or state) you just have to look how it is used in the other amendments. What we need is representatives who can read and uphold their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution Of The United States. One would think after college (where most of them have been), they would be able to read and understand but this doesn't seem to be the case.

I find it rather strange that so many folks scream that the states can handle their own affairs and that the Feds should not meddle in what is their constitutional rights, are the first to say that the Fed should regulate something that THEY have interest in.

Lol. That thought crossed my mind too! And in this issue both sides have switched position, those against state sovereignty are all of a sudden for it and those for it are all of a sudden opposed.

You can you just need a permit to purchaas for New Jersey . Also 45 fee for fingerprints . Total of 90 dollars to bring a gun to Jersey you already own.

Gun laws should be Constitutional simply because it is right there in the U.S. Constitution period no state should have a law that countermands the constitution

Ok so here is a question for you. Does the constitution say separation of church from state or church and state?? I know which one is correct but most people including lawyers miss it every single time and in missing it they do not understand its true meaning.

I am intrigued by our first Fed Government in 1776. Discussions of the right to bear arms brought up the subject of gun control. Their solution was to teach Bible-based virtues in public schools. The first Feds insisted that EVERY student in public schools have a Bible as a text book. The first Feds even appropriated money to buy Bibles from Europe so the supply would be sufficient.

Thanks to Supreme Court rulings in the late 40s and early 60s and the fallout from that, Bibles are now not allowed in schools---America's storehouse of Bible-based virtues had drastically shrunk---murder rates are skyrocketing sigh!!!!!

Emphatically NO!!!! There is NO reference to separation of church and state in the constitution. What the constitution DOES say is that "congress shall make no law" establishing a "state" religion. This was in answer to the Church of England being a "state" religion. Dates back to when king Henry the Eighth (I think) went against the Catholic church when he was denied a divorce by the pope. So, he broke away from the church and started his own so to speak. That was the intent of the founding fathers of our country. Our left leaning supreme court has interpreted this to mean an absolute separation of church and state - Incorrectly.

Is a gun a gun??
Depending on where you are.
Most states allow the purchase and/or ownership of long guns (rifles and shotguns and the like) without a lot of complications.
Handguns are a different story. Here in PA, anybody that can legally own a gun can buy a handgun following a background check. As far as I know, convicted felons and mental patients are the only ones that may not own a firearm.
Here in my community, there are city ordinances that define anything that can propel a projectile as a firearm. That includes BB guns, air rifles, sling shots, crossbows, etc. Discharge of a firearm within the city limits is prohibited. Enforcement is erratic at best. The last I knew, the penalty was a $25 fine.

Old 75, I didn't realize that my slingshot that holds and allows me to shoot tennis balls for my dog to retrieve may be illegal in some jurisdictions. Thank you.
