OT Any old rock n rollers

I was looking for something else and came across this on the old interweb today. Two of my favorites from back in the day at the same show for $10. What do you think a concert like that would cost today? Would like to have been there if you could travel back in time. Its kind of funny because over the years I have kind of become more of the George Jones Merel Haggard type. I like Farmall Hs to keep it somewhat tractor related.

I went to the Zeppelin concert in 73 in the Felt Forum of Madison Square Garden. That is the only indoors concert I have ever been to. Outdoors went to Woodstock (US) and Strawberry Fields (Canada). Mostly to chase girls who were "easy to get along with."

Wish I could have been there then! I was only about knee high to a heifer back then. I Still crank their tunes though everyday.

No , because at Lynyrd Skynyrds funeral for the plane crash it was said that the most flowers were sent by a band that Skynyrd never met , Led Zepelin. So never happened.Although Zeppelin was touring Cali in 73.

(quoted from post at 13:06:16 01/13/17) I think this poster is fake. Riverport did not exist in 1974.

According to Wikipedia it was opened in 91. K-she radio has been around a long time in St. Louis.

i remember seeing zz top at the chicago ampitheater in '73 or 74. rare earth was the warm up group. i think tickets were prolly 10 or 15 dollars, which was a lot of money!! it was loud!!!

My friend Vinny has a ZZ Top album so old they don't even have beards yet. They look like teenagers on the album cover .

In '74 or 75, went to a show in Syracuse. Two warm up bands nobody ever heard of. 1st Bob Seeger and Silver Bullet,. 2nd Blue Oyster Cult and the feature, Bockman Turner Overdrive. BTO played one song and we left.

I saw Blue Oyster Cult with Kansas and Boston last year. I wouldn't walk across the street to see Blue Oyster Cult if it was a free concert.

I believe it's fake too.

One time on Pawn Stars, a man came in with a concert poster for sale.

Their "expert" looked at it and immediately pronounced it fake. His reason was posters never, ever have the year, just the month and day.

Got to looking at them, and that appears to be true, no need for the year.

Though not much of a concert attendee, I did see the Beatles at Crosley field in 1966.

We had the least expensive tickets available. I believe that they were $3.50 each.

Wisconsin dells always brings a few good bands in a shot of geritol and good to go. A lady with an amazing voice joan baez was singing in the area i didn't take time off to go . i like the stories about her shes not one to mess with. I think it was Prague the local officials decide to shut her down by shutting down the microphone she just cranked up her volume. An dont forget the night the drove ole Dixie down. One favorite memory the beach boys at the dells a couple girls got up and started dancing guy behind me yells we came to see the beach boys not your fat rear ends and im in the middle. State fair in iowa we had no tickets lady had extra tickets front row seats no extra cost she was happy to sell them we were happy to get them three bands played hermans hermits , paul river and Tommy james . I'm getting old

I saw the Stones at the old Cleveland Arena the first time they played here. It was a weekday afternoon in the summer, '65 or '66. Saw Jan and Dean at Euclid Beach. There was a also place called The Front Row. Small venue with seats all around a rotating stage. No bad seats. The mega-groups wouldn't play there but I did see Seals and Croft, Harry Chapin and Gordon Lightfoot.

I call BS on that one. RIVERPORT didn't happen until the casinos showed up in the late 90s.

But,in the 70s we did have MRF(Mississippi River Festival) on the SIU campas in Edwardsville IL.. You could see THE WHO on Monday evening and Bob Hope on Tuesday. A lawn ticket cost $2.00. Look it up .Spent a lot of time there.

Yep I do remember the MRF. Pretty sure Skynyrd played there but I doubt Zep did. There was at least one or
two shows a week at that venue. I think the MRF ended in about 81 or 82.

I saw the Beatles one time around 66. The only good thing about the show was I had my girl friend with me. When every one is in bed. Wife, dog, and cats, I put on my head seat and listen to the oldies. I really like the old western songs. Most all those guys, and gals are no longer living. Stan

I saw the Beatles in Dallas in 1964. Got in for free because dad knew some of the security guys. Place was packed. Couldn't hear a thing.

My first couple of years learning the Banjo was given to me from a person who played with Bud Holey and a couple other bands to. Sorry I did not know who he was and till years later when I got older in age. I started to learn the Banjo in 1965.
I was five years old with this big heavy instrument on my lap. Our mom had all of us kids playing some instrument.

Seals and Crofts..(Summer breeze) Harry Chapin...(Cat's in the cradle) and Gordon Lightfoot...(Sundown)......Oh the memories......lol Great music and good times!

Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in July '77 about 4 mo before the plane crash, I bought all the tickets in the first 2 rows in one section in front of the stage and took a bunch of friends. They put on a great show.

I agree poster is probably a fake. Lynyrd Skynyrd played at The Ozark Music Festival July 19 - 21 in 1974 in Sedalia, Mo . Wouldn't have been impossible to do a show in St Louis on Sun, but not likely
The Ozark Music Festival

Paul, as others have said, the "poster" is a fake, but only because of the "Riverport" heading. The concert itself was real, and was at Kiel Auditorium downtown. I was there. Only time LZ played in STL as far as I know. Also, Mozark, I was at The Ozark Music Festival. What a crowd!

1954 Moline,Ill was in the front row at a new car show Mcguire Sisters doing Muscrat Ramble and other songs they did at that time.

Mozark, you're correct. Skynyrd was not there. Actual date of Led Zepplin was April 10, 1970. Had to look it up!

I new at least one was from the Watertown area. Saw them at one of the Thousand Islands Music Fests in Clayton. Was a long time ago and they made me feel old.

Ok. My only other good story. I went to Orlando for my brother's wedding. His roommates took to me to a bar called Edgewater and Park in a small strip mall to see Greg Allman. I was standing in the crowd with a fresh cold mug of beer in my hand when some rude SOB bumped my arm and spilled it down the girls back in front of me. I turned to wap the SOB and caught myself. You don't hit the main act. He looked terrible. Must have been Cher.

Lynyrd Skynyrd played at the Kansas State Fair last year. I believe tickets were $50 each. My wife had casually mentioned that if we had an extra $100 lying around (HA!) that we might consider going. Without missing a beat, I said that the old original band is dead and that this band was Lynyrd Skynrd in name only.
I never heard any more about it.

I met a girl, her cousin was married to him, went to their house for dinner ect. This was 25 plus years ago.

(quoted from post at 13:45:20 01/13/17) In '74 or 75, went to a show in Syracuse. Two warm up bands nobody ever heard of. 1st Bob Seeger and Silver Bullet,. 2nd Blue Oyster Cult and the feature, Bockman Turner Overdrive. BTO played one song and we left.

I think that was 1975. I went to a Seger / BTO concert at EMU in 1975. Seger tore down the place. BTO came out and just sounded lame. That was when "Beautiful Loser" came out. That tour finally got him over the top in the music world. He's been pretty well set ever since.

One of the songs that will be played at my going home services is gonna be, Simple Man. Good song, good way to live
