O/T un invited phone calls

All of a sudden am getting a bunch of unwanted telemarketer calls on my cell phone. That number has been on the do-not-call list from the get go, and updated regularly. Thought cell numbers were not published, and not supposed to be called as well. Are cells fair game now? Did they drop the do-not-call program?

I have been listing the numbers in my phone's directory, and blocking the calls on an individual basis, but that's getting tedious, and they have whole blocks of numbers.

Anyone else seen a uptick in these nuisance calls lately?

Yep, getting more calls all the time. Also have been on the no call list. Believe the problem is NO ENFORCEMENT by government. Cell phone and house land line are both getting the calls.

iirc the president "O" signed something allowing political calls to come through as many do not have land lines and then he has to be able to reach all who got his free phones too. LOL.

Many are robot calls, and you can't even get the satisfaction of telling them to stop calling your number.

Today I got two text messages from Andreria Gonzalez, both text messages said the same thing, from two different phone numbers.

When I have time I talk to them go ahead and answer and abuse them all I can. Usually question their mother's fidelity and discuss how much I like pork. That offends most of them and keeps them off the line with busy people.

Guess I am fortunate. My cell phone will ring once, then not ring again. Check the number, from an area code I don't even know. that all that happens, no message, just one ring and its done. Maybe their computer robo call recognizes the cell phone as such. I don't know but I am glad. Only a couple a week. gobble

I've had 18 so far this week on my cell phone. Five of them were from the same number which I have blocked in my phone. Number shows on recent call list but doesn't ring the phone.

Must be the day for it. I seldom get those calls, but got 3 today, NYC, Chicago, and LA area codes, according to GOOGLE. Listed as extended auto warranty scams.

Every time the law catches up with these a@@holes, they find another way to get around it.

I don't mind political calls, as long as the number is real, and I can recognize it as political. At least they take 'no' for an answer- usually.

Haven't heard from Rachel in at least 6 mos. The cruise horn a few times.

I keep getting 3. One about and auto warranty one about a free vacation and one about consolidating my credit card debt. They are about to drive me nuts. At least 3 times a week and two of them are always on the same day. I am also on the do not call list. I really should report them but that will take a lot of time out of an already busy day and I have high doubts about anything even being done about it

I can't understand why people are so upset about this. Why, in the last week I have won the chance for 3 four day, three night cruises just by answering my cell phone!!!!

You can slow these down a few ways. First is don't answer, any answer confirms a working number and they can then sell your number making things worse. Second set up a contact in your phone book and set ot to all calls to voice mail. You can add about 20 numbers to each contact and when it's full just start another. Any calls that go to voice mail are listed as inactive with these computer generated calls. I've been getting a lot pess since I've been doing that and only get a few calls a month now. I am working on my 3rd contact and it's almost full. For conveniece I set up the contact I'm filling as just A so it's first, when it's full I re-lable it as z so it's at the bottom out of the way. Just make sure the contact is marked "all calls to voice mail".

On my phone, I hit the phone # that is dialed, then it comes up with a list containing add to reject list, and when that # calls you, it automatically goes to reject list. I have a least 30 rejects on mine and adding to it all the time.

You would be wasting you time reporting them on the Gov. web site. I've reported dozens if not hundreds and nothing has been done. In the comments section I berate them without mercy for being impotent to stop these bums calling and aggravating folks. But since I have no life I can do that .TDF

RayP, Yes I have experienced that too. There are computer dialing programs that call numbers in succession. Also, I wouldn't be surprised that records are hacked. Also, 'Do not call' only applies to calling within the USA. And even if they are, how do you find them, they can relocate weekly. Hope you can find your 'blocking' ap and it has lotsa memory !

I think the do not call list expired a few years ago. I started getting lots of calls when I "free" internet from the phone company. They're gonna make money some way.

For anyone with a smart phone, try loading a call blocking application. I have one called Mr. Number which blocks about 3-4 calls each day. If you get a telemarketing call which it does not block, you can easily report the number so that the app can block it in the future for other users also.

I have the same problem. My solution is simple:

Unless an incoming call is from someone in my contacts (wife, kids, close friends, a couple elderly neighbors and my part-time employer) I simply ignore my phone when it rings!

If the call is important they will leave me a message to call back. Otherwise to h*ll with them.

Remember when you filled out that form for a chance to win a new flat screen TV,how about when you gave the bank your cell number? Anytime you give your number to a charity or business, there is a good chance they will sell your contact information.

I'm goin to try that, thanks.

My phone only allows 10 blocked calls so that would get full fast, and I need to save that for folks I really don't want to talk to like family and such. Lol

I average five a day on my land line. They have got crafty and use a local area code  One tip I read is to never answer a call that list a city on caller ID that alone has cut my time answering the phone.

Google is the worst of the bunch I get lots of calls from them wanting me to advertise. I did get lucky a year are so back and got a Indian trying to sell me cable telephone service. Up till then Cable would not run a line to my shop I called the cable folks and said a Indian said he could get the deal done. Charter sent a rep out that day and sealed the deal the rep said he did not know how those Indians got it done but they do so Charter would also.

It cost charter $8K to run the service and I don't doubt it, how they are ever going to get there money back I dunno I want live long enoufh for them to make a profit off my service.

BTW cable is haft what the local telephone co. charges.

Ray I just seen a guy answer his phone and it was a telemarketer. When the person ask if he was so an so he said no he was killed in a car wreck last week and I am just using up his minutes on the phone. There was a long pause and the telemarketer hung up.

Bob

I sometimes keep them talking, (wasting their time), then chew they out using works I won't put here. That is if I have a few minutes, if not I chew them out right at the start. Might not do any good buy at least after being bothered by them I feel better.

a friend of mine tells about his b-i-l telemarketer calls wants to sell him windows for his house.
b-i-l asked do you also sell doors and siding? telemarketer said yes b-i-l said good i need all of them and bankruptcy
comes thru a end of month and i want to fix up house before it is done.
telemarketer hung up on b-i-l.

I've also gotten a few spam calls in the last few days, Brooklyn NY, Beaver, UT, and some place from Kentucky. I don't answer them and they don't leave a message. Blocking the number won't help because they will just have a new number the next time they try to call. No, I don't give out my number to anybody, (Publishers Clearing House, etc.) they have robo machines dialing numbers a few hundred at a time and after they hang up, the machine just counts up a number and dials again.
I'm going to get laughed at for even thinking about this, but the only way to stop them is to somehow hit the telemarketer companies in their pocketbooks. I propose a national phone system where the caller has to deposit $.05 or $.10 into the savings account of the person receiving the call each time they call you. It would have to be impossible for them to stop the payment and the receiver would get hard, cold cash into their account, not some sort of credit or phony money. An average Joe would not miss the nickel or dime when he makes a call, but the telemarketers who call thousands of calls each day would get hit hard in the pocket book.
It could be done if people would demand it.

I got one yesterday from a gal about a vacation. She sounded sweet and I kept flirting with her. Asking her intimate question about her undergarment and body measurement! She kept on talking and went on to tell her what farm boys and horses have in common and she finally hung up. Had my co workers and boss rolling on the floor! Got home that night and wife ask if the travel agent got ahold of me about the coop trip we were thinking about going on!oops!

I have thought of making the appointment with the ones who are selling windows or solar or such and them when they show up telling them I have changed my mind and throwing them off the property. Wasting their time. Maybe then they would get the message and take my number off their list. Haven't tried it yet.

I have one better that beats most. When they ask if this is so and so, I tell them he just shot himself and I am waiting for the police to arrive and I may be in a problem, so whats your name so I can tell them I was on the phone with you should I need a witness. nuff said

Completely correct, the DO NOT CALL laws are only applicable inside the borders of the US. AS far as the actual person on the phone is concerned, that's just some person who has to have a job.

Blocking the caller? You gotta be kidding! A call center may have hundreds of people on the phone at a time. So each center has to have that many lines each with it's own number. Now add on that there is software out there that will tell you the call is coming from somewhere, say here, 218 area when it's actually coming from India. So caller ID and blocking are not effective at all when trying to get away from these companies.

Now add in that say you buy something from CaseIH. You give the dealer your number. In effect you just gave your number to FIAT. And anything that FIAT owns is now able to legally call! Just a little loop hole that many companies have chosen to to make money on. This dose not mean that FIAT is or isn't doing this, just an example.

When I get calls from telemarketers, I simply tell them that they are in violation of federal law due to my having registered with the "do not call" list. Then I begin asking for some credentials like their legal service address. That usually results in a hang up. In any case, I do not abuse the callers. They are just trying to make a living in a way that most of us would find distasteful in an effort to support their families. No other person deserves to be spoken to in an abusive manner. That is just common human courtesy.
