What type of packing is used for the sediment bowl gas shut off on the older model tractor's, such as on a Farmall A or 8n. Thanks, Murray

My guess it would have been a graphite impregnated cotton fiber washer, or even a string wrapped around the stem, packed in with the gland nut.

Best not to remove what's there, just add to it if it won't tighten down. I've used Teflon tape, string, or the hem off a red rag!

If it's been removed, you might find some packing string at a plumbing supply or a real hardware store.

i just use a piece of heavy cotton with teflon paste
