Junk yardin

Went yardin today and thought these old trucks needed their picture taken. Look at that old V8 flat head with the two water pumps. Then I notice the battery. Really good Ground strap power hook up? Looks as if that could get excited?

I miss being able to go to junkyards! There used to plenty around to go through, many private, some you could just walk in others you needed permission, but they are all gone now forced to clean up. Looks like some neat stuff there.

Been decades since I went Junk Yardin. My junk yardin days ended the day Auto
Zone came to town. Zones prices were close to junk yard prices, saved time, didn't have to deal with angry old junk yard man and I got a lifetime warranty.

Pics of junk yards, pics of old barns and homes falling down, and old tractors rusting out make me sad to think people don't take care of things. We just throw them away.

jeffcat, did you see the American picker show when they went to a junkyard in South Jersey? I think the guys name was Harry if I remember right. They bought so signs, and old soda machine and some other stuff

The local junkyard guy up the road from me used to carry a wad of cash in one pocket and a .38 in the other. Would never tell you the price until you wend and got the part off, then would say "and add in another (dollar amount) for the governor, you can never tell that man over there could be from the state watching to see that I collect the governor's share". Then the tax money went into the same pocket as the rest.

Back when I "chose" to provide "rent-a-wrecks" to my 4 kids (and one for my work car), rather than have them tear up, or never have the family bus available for us parents, my Saturdays were usually just that and I had a blast. We had several good sized yards with quality "pickins". The yards would let you bring your tools and do your own pickin. I liked that.

On the Ford dual water pumps, I grew up with the flathead from barely seeing over the fender on. Knew nothing else. Had no idea the two radiator hoses were for 2 water pumps because of the separate sections of the V8. So the first time I saw an overhead V8 with a common water pump and only one exit hose, was in 1956 when dad was trying to decide between a Ford and Chevy, I objected, thinking that the companies left something out. I also tried to find more things wrong with the Chevy and put him onto the Ford because it had White Sidewalls. I lost.

with people apparently willing to spend as much on a restoration as they used to spend on a house these days according to tv shows, both of those old trucks could be built and put back on the road today, the new stuff, just scrap

That flathead is in a 51 or 52 Ford. I had a 1951 that I completely refinished in High School. A friend of Dad's gave me the truck, he needed the motor for his 49 car. Dad and I dropped a 352 Ford in it with a 3 speed auto. I painted it strawberry red and drove her for 10 years everyday. Fun truck but the salt got it down here in Missouri. Miss that truck though.

I have Dad's 1947 Dodge now. When I get a chance I might drop a 350 in it just for fun. Future project.

looks like they probably got more damage from the guys at the yard than they had when they arrived.
