OT/ but antique. Ice box?

Would it be efficient to build a super insulated ice box with an ice maker gravity feeding the ice box? Not
to ruin an old one but build it to look old.

It would be as efficient as the amount of insulation you put in it! Probably pretty hard to get it as good as new refrigerator. There is an old log house in my hometown that has a big old wooden icebox with a refrigeration unit connected to it. Probably not very efficient but kind of neat.

I wood find a used refrigerator and remove the exterior metal then insulate it with 2inch isocyanurate foam (Tuff R) then build the exterior out of wood/paneling. Using ice as the source is dramatically problematic in that you must continue to drain it, and it would be a real compromise. Jim

I used to have a neighbor who lined the outside of his refrigerator with 1x_ pine boards. He did a nice job of it and made it look like an old time Ice box on the outside. This was a refrigerator with the coils on the back, so he didn't have to worry about exchanging heat out the side walls.
