South African pigmy goats.....

So.....apparently tonight (or soon) we are expecting baby pigmy goats....

My daughter (will be 4 in april) has two African pigmy goats.....and the female is due to have babies. Her colosterum is in (according to the neighbor hood goat expert, she expects them to be born tonight)

I have been around Angus cattle all my life.....goats, not so much. I hope those little buggers (could be 4) make it out alright on their own....they have to be tiny little fellers!

Ill post pics when they get here, my daughter knows they are coming, and will flip when they are here....watching her learn and care and love for animals as we do has been awesome as a Dad.

I grew up with cattle and a couple of goats, the goats provided the entertainment and ate the weeds in pasture.

Better keep an eye on her as we have had to help several of ours by pulling them . Another thing is they will not take cold weather. On a positive note note you will have hours of entertainment watching them play.

I envy you. Back in the early '80s, I had several African pigmy goats, and they were the most charming critters I've ever owned. They're cheap to raise, pretty much disease free, hilariously entertaining, and generally not too demanding as long as they have draft-free shelter. I had to get rid of them when I moved to a job in a different state. If there is a cuter baby animal, I'd like to know what it is. Kittens and puppies ain't got nothin' on pygmies! I swear that if I ever go beyond dogs and cats, the first creatures I get will be pigmy goats.

If she has over 2 kids you may need to supplement bottle feed them as the doe may not be able to give them enough milk. Also if its really cold where you're located you need to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't chill.

(quoted from post at 17:36:43 01/11/17) one of our nigerian dwarfs lived over 14 years!

We lost one last summer, about 14, our last one. Friendly little guy, always looking for a treat. :D

Goats are goats. Pygmy goats are something else. If they cannot crawl through the fence, they will climb over it. Makes no difference how tall the fence is.

Don't leave a piece of equipment sitting in the yard where they are. They will grab ahold of the valve stem and pull it out of the rim, experience speaking here.
