All-fuel tractor videos?

I am teaching an mechanics class to a group of home-school kids. I've been trying to find some videos of all-fuel tractors running, and getting switched over from gasoline to kerosene (or another gas substitute). I thought the search would easy but so far, not so. I find endless videos of all-fuel tractors running (most likely on gasoline). I'd like to find a good video content showing a tractor doing the changeover - along with getting it good and hot, flipping the fuel selector valve, maybe sounding awful for a bit, etc.

wasnt any lever to switch just turnoff the gas and turn on the fuel. You need shutters to get the tractor warm so the fuel will burn good that why they had shutters in front of the radiator. Shutting downturn off fuel and switch back to gas for better starting.

That depends on what make of tractor(or auto). I am aware of what needs to be done to make one run. Just have not been able to find a good video.

If your searching for "All Fuel" you are only going to find John Deere. They were the only company to try to market that system. IH sold mostly (F12 could be ordered with Gasoline engine) Kerosene tractors until 39, after that you had to choose which fuel you wanted, Gasoline, Kerosene,or Distillate. Then they supplied an engine with different pistons and related equipment for that fuel. Would they all run on gas? of course because they had to be started on gas, but they were most efficient on their intended fuel.

Hello JDEM,

Hercules engines were in the army trucks I work on. They were multifuel. Two models: LDS 427-1 and a LDS- 465-1. There are youtube videos of hercules running, not sure if you can find a switch over. E bay has manuals. There were diesel engines, way way back, that started on gas and swithed over to diesel. Not multifuel but cold weather aid,

Guido.

On my JD A not much to see or hear. You can smell the kerosene though. I was plowing along at a show one time and knew I was getting low on gas. Switched over halfway down the field while under load. Just reach up and turn the valve lever in the dash no muss or fuss didn't miss a beat you could just smell it.

Just to clarify - my word-search is not limited to just "all-fuel" like Deere and Co. used. I have no trouble finding multi-fuel tractor videos. I just have not been able to find one that shows one changing over. I don't have enough bandwidth here to play every video I come across. I have already gone through around 30 that looked promising but were duds. I had a Ford Model T that was all-fuel. I also had a Deere BO and H. All were very difficult to get going on kerosene. Even with the radiator closed all the way off - I usually had to work the machine hard and then switch over and even then - it was not smooth. I'd like to find some video footage of something like that. I thought it would be easy - but U-Tube is loaded with a lot of stuff - some good and some pretty bad. I was also trying to find a video of the starting procedure for a diesel-fueled chainsaw like an old Comet. I found one that kind of shows it quickly but not in detail and guy kind of cheats by using a modern propane torch to preheat it.

Don't know why you had trouble getting them to run well on kerosene. I've run a John Deere A, AR, D, and B on kerosene or fuel oil and always ran smooth. Even kill the engine and start them on fuel oil and not a problem. Did your tractors have the hot manifold or a cold one?
