Turn Radius and Implement Questions

I am looking to goof with some small food plots. I just purchased a 10' New Idea Drop Spreader for lime and also a pull type JD JB24 8' disc. Two questions.

1. I know I can test this but I won't be able to get the tractor out until this weekend. My Massey 135 has a turn radius of 9'. The food plot is laid out that I need to make a U Turn with the CENTER (Not outside) of tractor being shifted 20' from the previous path. Can my 9' radius tractor make a 20' (center of tractor) U Turn?

2. Does making a very tight U turn put any bad stresses on non-3pt equipment such as the drop spreader or the disc?

You have to see how the hitch works out with drawn equipment. The rear tire can hit the hitch if you turn too sharp. Be careful of this.

It can be hard on the inner openers if you turn real sharp with a drill down in the ground. A nice gentle turn is likely fine, but real sharp, brake
locked on the tractor, isn't so good. You are forcing that opener to pivot in the ground, rather than cut through the ground while moving forward.

A disk without wheels is generally designed to flex when you turn and won't hurt it, but you just can't turn real sharp anyhow. If the disk has a lift
cylinder and wheels those generally it is very hard on them to leave in the ground and turn sharp, lift them at each end for turning around.

You will learn to make 3-4 passes around the field with either the disk or the drill, and then travel back and forth using the ends to turn around
on.

It can be difficult in tiny patches of fields, but that is how it is, one works out a system pretty quick.

I don't think that model has a swing drawbar does it ? But if you have one it sure makes turning with a drag disc much better.

Paul.......The New Idea is a drop spreader not a drill.

Mike.....Neither my tractor or disc have a swinging drawbar.

Concerning your turning radius - no matter what the tractor turning radius is you can't turn any shorter than what your rear tire will clear the implement you are pulling. Mounted equipment its not a problem
but on equipment hooked to the draw-bar its a big deal.If you have duels on the tractor the problem becomes even bigger.

At this point I'm not so much concerned with what my tractor is capable of because I can figure that out by trial and error. What I want to make sure is that neither my disc or drop spreader could be compromised by a tight U-Turn. I would think the drop spreader would be fine because it is not ground engaging but wasn't sure on the disc. Does it put unwanted pressure on the discs? I understand why you wouldn't want to make a tight U-turn with a planter because of how it spikes into the ground. Same with a plow, etc.
