Billy Bob or Bubba

Any guesses as to which one did this. This is a photo of the breaker box that was in the shop when we bought this property. Not only that, the shop was being fed with 150 feet of indoor Romex that was just laying on the ground.

Needless to say I have rewired the shop and buried 2 inch conduit for a proper feed line.

Banks are starting to send their inspectors out before they loan money. That
would have been red flagged.

Some hate the idea of area planning, building inspectors, getting permits,
being told what they can build on their property and how it has to be built.

Now you can see why.

I think that installation was done by their other brother in law. Even Billy Bob and Bubba do better work then that lol. Back when I was farming and bought and sold a few farms I saw some installations even worse then that. There are trained professional plumbers and mechanics and electricians out there and there are "others" (including yours truly) but back when I was beginning farming on a shoestring budget and had to do with what I had, I was sure guilty of "questionable" mechanical or plumbing or electrical installations myself whewwwwwwwwwwww

Keep safe yall best wishes

Looks like the same guys who wired my barns?? First thing I did after we closed on the property was to shut down the power in every outbuilding on the place. When we pulled the old boxes and wires the number of charred spots we found was scary. We had one building that was fed by a 100 amp 220 breaker at the meter box that went to overhead triplex. Then at the building they placed a pole and ran the triplex inside and just inside the siding grabbed one leg and the neutral and clamped them to #14 wires (with hose clamps) and from there to a light switch. The other leg was just laying there on the floor and live,,,

Although sloppy looking work is seldom functionally sound neatness can fool a person too, I have seen some very neat, and VERY unsafe electrical work in my life.

For sure George, mortgage companies and realtors and title companies and insurance providers etc. don't like to lend or assume risks "in the dark" and believe in CYA lol for which I cant blame them and curing a hazard might save a life or prevent a fire to boot, hard to be against that.

John T High to mid seventies forecast the next 10 or so days during Florida Flywheelers yayyyyyyyyyyy

When I was inspecting real estate properties for insurance companies, I would have had to turn in a photo of that, among other photos, in my report.

Believe it or not, I ran into stuff like that in otherwise nice appearing houses.

Hey -at least your mess was overt and easy to see. Mine was hidden.

Here are some photos from the last foreclosed home I bought. Old 40 acre farm in northern Michigan and the work was done by the farmer and
his friends. Sorry - not done by "Billy Bob" or "Bubba." Just by someone low on funds trying to get by.

Old pole barn had an underground 100 amp 220 volt service and one leg was dead. I saw a low spot out in the sheep pasture and dug by hand
with a shovel. I found where the buried cable had been drilled through with a fence-post auger and then spliced with duct tape and a short
length of copper against the URD aluminum. I repaired it with some water-proof splices and got rid of the copper.

Then inside the house - found the roof collapsing because the rafters were 14 foot long, free-span and only rough 2" X 4" poplar. I had to
more-or-less, build in place trusses to save the roof from the inside. It had a major leak just over the main electric panel and it was a
mess. Half the breakers did not work due to water damage.

I built a new pole barn out back , 250 feet from the house and ran some underground URD cable in conduit, under water, for a 80 amp, 220
volt service. NOT fun laying it under water but no choice. Water is three feet down and I dug the trench four feet deep.

JohnT,
Haven't set a date yet, fish aren't bitting. It usually takes a cold snap to bring the up to shallower waters.

This week we are getting rain, rain, and more rain, temps forcasted close to 60 this week, above freezing at night. Then maybe winter will decide to set in.

I may finish most of my paper work to send to CPA, 2016 taxes, today. Got all winter projects done. May need to make sure everything is ready to go with my buggy before heading south.

When I bought this place, there were 6 little old 20 and 30 amp fuse boxes cobbed together in the milk house which ran everything, including a small bulk milk tank, water heater, space heater, and a welder.

The house me & Mrs. bought in 87 had 2 old twist in fuses fuseboxs, one from supply line box was feeding the other, you could unscrew that fuse and kill half the house. The electric stove from 40s or 50s was wired directly into the main (no breaker). I knew I had some electrical to do, but not the whole house. Good thing I got it cheap.

(quoted from post at 09:23:02 01/09/17)

clamped them to #14 wires (with hose clamps) and .

Hose clamps. Thanks for the tip.
Hadn't thought of hose clamps for splicing wires.

I know a man planning to sell a house with screw in fuses. He know his electrical will have to be upgraded before he lists his.

Bubba and Billy Bob moved out of town. Can't find work in my county or city for the past 30 years.

When I built my shop in '05 I did the electrical. County inspector comes out and gives me a green tag so that the power company will install the meter. Yes I passed first time. He said you wouldn't believe what I run across and what kind of conversations and excuses/alabis and everything else you hear.

Bubba and Billy Bob can wire their house and it too has to pass the building inspector. Permit costs $100. Bubba and Billy BOB can't wire someone's elses house unless the owner gets a permit, claims he doing the work. The work still has to pass inspection.

I've upgraded 12 electrical services and re wired all many of my rental places. I was able to do my own work and they all passed inspection. My last room addition, I hired a union electrician to do the work. Inspector red flagged the wire going to the bedroom smoke detector. Inspector wanted it wired with 12-3 with ground. The third wire was to connect the smoke detector to other smoke detectors. Only problem this was the only hard wired smoke detector in the house. Old part of house have battery powered detectors.

Interesting George! I know a guy I used to work with thats a Code Enforcement Officer now. The guy knew absolutely nothing about building, wiring, plumbing or anything remotely mechanical. He had garages and contractors do everything for him. But now he's a god with a title in a line of work he knows nothing about. Our towns CEO has been assisting him, trying to get him up to speed and I understand it's about like trying to teach a rock to talk. But, he's the man with the authority to shut a job down or certify a home for occupancy..........
