Farmall 706 Diesel VIDEO

Hi everybody, I recorded the video i was talking. just click the link and it will bring you to youtube https://youtu.be/E1_3RlEOWnc , listen to it and tell me what you think could be causing it to miss or run rough or what ever it sounds like, It has always ran like this. Im just now asking. Does this sound normal for the old D282's? i wouldn't think it would be normal, i mean a regular diesel runs nice and smooth. everyone that watches it, even if you are not that sure, just reply what you think. anything will help. Im not sure if it could be dirty injectors, timing off etc. the motor is all warmed up to. Thanks for any help possible, i mean as long as it doesn't hurt anything, thats fine, but i have a feeling deep down that its not right.

Also, when there is no load on the motor, it will sound like this. but as soon as i put it in drive or a load gets put on it, the motor will smooth right out and pur.

sounds ok to me been around them for 53 years its running a little cold yet. grind a load of feed she'll warm up. the right muffler will add enough back pressure to smooth her out dad was to cheep to use a new muffler in the late 60s and early 70s till mom laid down the law because she didnt like diesel snoke in her face.

The tractor still runs and sounds the same with the muffler on, infant, when it warms up, and gets even warmer after working it, it will miss or what ever even worse at like 1800 rpm than when it is cold like in the video. muffler made no effect. ill have to record a video with muffler on and it even more warmed up, but now I'm in a pinch with 5 glow plugs going out because i burned them out. so i have to figure out how to get them out with breaking them. they could be as old as the tractor

That is not normal for that engine. More than one issue though the way it sounds. The pop in exhaust may be loose valve settings or worn cam shaft. The missing, fluttering at higher speed sounds like the timing is not advancing far enough or static timing is off. The puffs of black smoke when running at constant speed could be injection nozzle. In other words, it needs attention. That blue on pipe, is that from that tractor. No way a D282 should turn that pipe blue unless grossly over fueled.

Thank you very much, i need people like you to scare me and tell me the straight truth otherwise i won't ever look into this. The blueing on the pipe is from a different tractor, but i swapped the pipe. So i best look into the valve settings first, and make sure them are up to spec,, i highly doubt the cam is worn, though it could be. where could i find the valve specs for this motor? thank you

The valve clearance is .027 int and exhaust valves. If you do get those glow plugs out and find the end burned badly, that indicates a leaking nozzle. If end is burst, that indicates high voltage when glow plug is energized. That typically happens if you use a battery charger to boost. I would also pull timing window off side of pump and marks should align at right close to 1 degree before top dead center. If you could get your hand on a plastic window you could observe the automatic advance when running to be sure it is fully advancing at near 2100 rpm's. Been a long time since checking a speed advance on a 706 but think it is one and a half marks which is 3 pump degree or 6 engine. I could look it up if need be.
