Rotation of hydraulic pump

If your putting hydraulic pump to the shaft connecting crankshaft pulley, do you need
a pump direction clockwise or counterclockwise direction?

The pumps usually have an arrow on the housing pointing which direction they turn. Match this up to the way your engine turns.

No markings- maybe lovejoy covering arrow. It's a vickers pump v10-1p6y27b20. I think it's clockwise

The rotation direction of pumps is always specified as viewed from the shaft end. The engine turns clockwise as viewed from the front end so you'd need a pump that rotates counterclockwise (since the pump shaft is facing away from you). If you're on the flywheel end of the engine it would be the opposite.

Vickers uses a strange direction arrow, doesn't really look like an arrow unless you look closely.

It's usually a straight line with a half arrowhead, cast into the casting, sometimes on the edge of the casting.
