Widen field

I have a three acre field I fixed two holes about 50 by 50 and cleaned up the edge around two sides and
made about 40 foot wider is it to late to so grass and if so what should I put on it. I live in the
Piedmont of North Carolina going to be in the teens by the week end

I think going into the teens will be considered hard freeze, too late in my opinion.

I live in Sampson County (north of Wilmington) and I have planted wheat or rye (not rye grass) as cover crop as late as it is now. A local farmer is still planting wheat here. Just broadcast and lightly disk in and it will be ok. The cover crop will grow on warm days and still survive the cold we have in NC.

Annual rye grass will do well just broadcast, and will reseed itself if you don't mow it.
