Hello everyone, and Happy Holidays. I have an old 8n or Jubilee with a front mounted distributor. Been running Perf. Recently, it just quits, like I turned the key off (electrical), after its been running a few minutes. It was converted to 12 volt, and I replaced the ceramic thingy (6v to 12V) Started up, same deal. I unplugged and re-plugged into the dist cap. Thought that was it. Took cap off, sand paper on all contacts, touched up rotor, then starts right up. Poof, cuts out. Any Ideas for me my friends.

possibly bad condenser or coil breaking down when it gets warm. check if you have spark as soon as it quits. if it has spark check for partly plugged fuel line it may run until the carb bowl gets empty and will re start when it finally trickles in enough gas past the blockage

Pull the choke ut as it is dying. if no sputter and help, it is probably electrical.
put a test light on the power to the resistor and start it. if it stays lit, check the other side of the resistor. if it stays lit, check the point it
enters the coil. It will be open in some connection when it fails. Jim

Well lets start off with what you have. Front mount distributor say it is a 8N if it has 4 forward gears or a 2N or 9N if you have 3 forward gears. Jubilee has an over head valve engine and a 5 nipple distributor cap
That said try these things
#1 run a hot wire from the ignition side of the battery to the coil and see if it will run and run like it should. If it runs hot wired then the problem is most likely a bad ignition switch since they do go bad and when they do it can do as it is doing. If it still dies then check to see if your getting a good blue/white spark at all 4 plug wires that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. If you have a good spark then got to
#2Pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes.
Then post back what you find
