JD 3010 Missing/Stuttering/Won't Start

My friends Gas 3010 started missing, stuttering and now won't start at all. I am checking the carburetor and replacing plugs and points.

Now for the question, someone mentioned that unleaded fuel can cause the valves to stick. Has anyone experienced this? The owner uses only Premium (octane 91) gas with no ethanol in it.

Thanks.

I have not seen unleaded gas cause valve sticking. One exception is very old gas, especially if it sat out in the sun in a clear jug for a month or more. I had that sun aged stuff stick the exhaust valve in a small Briggs & Stratton engine. I had the head off twice freeing stuck exhaust valves. I drained that sun aged junk, replaced it with fresh gas and had no more sticky valve trouble.

Thanks Jon for your response. This is pretty much as I expected.

Well, on the gas 3010 I cleaned the carburetor (did not find much except a couple very small pieces of dirt), replaced the plugs, points, and condenser. It started right up and ran great. It could have been the carburetor but I am also suspecting the condenser.
